Overview

The Fumex FA1 Series Air Filtration System is a multi-stage air purifier designed to remove a wide range of pollutants from process plumes in an efficient and cost-effective manner. It is intended for general ventilating use only and should not be used to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials or vapors.

Function Description:

The FA1 system utilizes a variable speed blower with three settings (Low, Med, High) to draw air through a series of filters. It incorporates a pressure differential switch to monitor the status of particulate filters and a VOC sensor to detect odors/gases in the exhaust stream. The system is designed to capture and treat gases/odors using a blended activated carbon and activated alumina filter impregnated with KMnO4.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Fuse: Requires a 10-Amp fuse.
  • Blower/Motor Assembly: Universal, operating at 90-250V, single phase, 50-60Hz.
  • Blower Motor MTBF: 24,000 hours.
  • HEPA Filter Efficiency: 99.97% efficient in removing particles as small as 0.3µ.
  • Pre-filter Rating: MERV 11.
  • Power Cord/Plug: Default is US (120V).
  • Warranty: 24 months from the date of invoice for electrical and mechanical soundness, covering material and workmanship.

Usage Features:

  • Initial Setup:
    • Install wheels on the bottom plate.
    • Attach the inlet to the top lid.
    • Install filters in a specific order: FA101D gas/odor filter (bottom), FA100 HEPA filter (middle), FA102B pre-filter (top). Airflow direction arrows on filters must be observed.
    • Close and latch the lid.
    • Attach the power cord.
  • Placement: Position the unit as close as possible to the pollution source to minimize ducting, back-pressure, and power consumption. Ensure adequate ventilation for the bottom exhaust.
  • Inlet Hose Attachment: Standard inlets are 1x2", 2x2", or 1x3". Attach a flex hose over the metal air inlet tube and secure it with a stainless-steel clamp. Connect the hose to a suction hood or place it near the pollution source.
  • On/Off Switch: A green light above the POWER button indicates the unit is on.
  • Blower/Fan Control: Up and down arrow buttons adjust blower speed. A green light indicates the current speed setting (Low, Med, High).
  • Filter Monitoring:
    • A red "FILTER" light illuminates when one or more particulate filters need replacement.
    • A "GAS" warning light illuminates when the gas/odor filter is saturated and VOC breakthrough occurs.
  • Remote Interface (Optional - Part # FA228): Provides remote start/stop and filter monitoring capabilities. Requires specific activation procedures involving a physical switch on the control panel, software reprogramming via a flash drive, and applying 0-24 VDC to the start relay. The remote interface cable must be connected to a 24V, Class 2 power supply only.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety First: Always disconnect from the power supply before performing any maintenance, including cabinet cleaning, changing filters, or servicing electrical components.
  • Blower Motor: Sealed unit, permanently lubricated, does not require oiling. Keep it free of dust accumulations to prevent overheating.
  • Air Filter Chamber: Periodically remove loose accumulations of dust/debris.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the fuse blows, unplug the product, replace with a 10-Amp fuse, and check the product. If the replacement fuse blows again, a short circuit may be present, and the product should be discarded or returned to an authorized service facility.
  • Filter Replacement:
    • Pre-filter (FA102B): First stage of filtration. Can be changed as a complete unit or, in heavy dust applications, the polyester pre-filter can be removed independently.
    • HEPA Filter (FA100): Service life depends on pre-filter protection and loading, typically 2-4 months.
    • Gas/Odor Filter (FA101D): Replace when the "GAS" warning light illuminates. Contact Fumex Engineering for filter selection assistance to ensure proper capture of specific pollutants.
  • Filter Reset: After replacing filters, press the "FILTER RESET" button. If the "FILTER" light remains illuminated or comes back on, replace the HEPA filter and press "FILTER RESET" again.
  • Blower Failure Reset: If all three blower speed lights flash, disconnect the unit momentarily from its power source and reconnect to reset the blower's internal thermal protection. If lights continue to flash, contact Fumex LLC. for replacement.
