Overview

The Fumex FA2 Series Air Filtration System is a multi-stage air purifier designed to remove a wide range of pollutants from process plumes in industrial manufacturing environments. It is engineered for efficient and cost-effective operation, with a focus on minimizing operator and maintenance personnel exposure to contaminants.

Function Description:

The FA2 unit functions by drawing in polluted air, passing it through a series of filters, and then exhausting clean air. It features a variable speed blower with eight settings, allowing users to adjust the airflow based on the level of pollution. The system continuously monitors the status of its filters and the presence of odors/gases in the exhaust stream, providing visual indicators when maintenance is required. An optional remote interface package allows for remote start/stop functionality and filter monitoring.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: Factory configured for 90-250V, single-phase, 50-60Hz.
  • Fuse: Requires a 15-Amp fuse.
  • Blower Motor: Sealed unit, 24,000 hr. MTBF rated, permanently lubricated.
  • HEPA Filter Efficiency: 99.97% efficient in removing particles as small as 0.3µ.
  • Filter Types:
    • FA140B-2 Pre-filter Assembly
    • FA100 HEPA Filter
    • FA201D Gas/Odor Filter (blended activated carbon and activated alumina impregnated with KMnO4)
    • Optional FA201C Activated Carbon Filter and FA201E AcideX cell.
  • Connectivity: USB port on the control board for reprogramming, optional remote interface (Part # FA227) for remote start/stop and filter monitoring.
  • Dimensions/Weight: Not explicitly stated, but the unit is designed to be moved with wheels.

Usage Features:

  • Initial Setup: Involves installing wheels, removing packing materials and filters for initial inspection, installing filters in the correct airflow direction, attaching the air inlet flange, and connecting the power cord.
  • Placement: Should be located as close as possible to the pollution source to minimize ducting, back-pressure, and power consumption. Adequate ventilation for the bottom exhaust panel and top access for filter compartment are necessary.
  • Inlet Hose Attachment: The air inlet flange is installed at the back top of the unit, and a hose can be attached to a Fumex suction hood or placed near the pollution source.
  • On/Off Switch: Simple one-touch operation with a green light indicating power to the unit.
  • Blower/Fan Control: Variable speed blower with 8 settings, controlled by up/down arrows. A bar graph indicates speed, and a green light confirms blower operation.
  • Filter Monitoring: Independent pressure differential switches monitor the Pre-filter and HEPA filter status, indicated by bar graphs that increase in 20% increments. Red lights signal when a filter change is needed. A VOC sensor monitors the exhaust stream for odors/gases, with a "GAS" warning light illuminating when the gas/odor filter is saturated.
  • Remote Interface (Optional): Allows for remote start/stop and filter monitoring. Requires reprogramming the unit via a flash drive with a configuration file (fumex.ini) and applying 0-24 VDC to the start relay. The control board power button is locked out when remote activation is enabled. De-activation procedures are also available to revert control to the unit's front panel.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety Precautions: Always disconnect from the power supply before performing any maintenance, including cleaning, changing filters, or servicing electrical components. Do not use with solid-state speed control devices. For general ventilating use only; not for hazardous or explosive materials. Use only a 15-Amp fuse.
  • Filter Replacement: Filters should be checked and replaced when warning lights illuminate.
    • Pre-filter (FA140B-2): First stage of filtration. Average service life is 1-3 months, depending on particulate loading.
    • HEPA Filter (FA100): Placed on top of the gas/odor filter. Average service life is 2-4 months, depending on pre-filter protection and loading.
    • Gas/Odor Filter (FA201D): Utilizes blended activated carbon and activated alumina. Replacement is indicated by the "GAS" warning light.
  • Blower Motor Maintenance: The sealed blower motor is permanently lubricated and does not require oiling. It should be kept free of dust accumulations to prevent overheating.
  • Air Filter Chamber Cleaning: Loose dust/debris should be removed periodically from the air filter chamber.
  • Fuse Replacement: The product includes overload protection (fuse). If the fuse blows, unplug the product, replace the fuse with a 15-Amp fuse, and check the product. If the replacement fuse blows again, a short circuit may be present, and the product should be discarded or returned to an authorized service facility.
  • Filter Installation: Do not operate the unit without all filters in place. Pay attention to the airflow direction arrows on the FA201D and FA100 filters during installation. Remove the red cap from the FA140B pre-filter for installation and replace it before operation.
  • Cord Management: Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug. Do not run the cord under carpeting or cover it with throw rugs. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas to prevent tripping hazards.

The FA2 system is designed for reliability and ease of maintenance, with clear indicators for when filter changes are needed, ensuring continuous efficient operation and protection against airborne pollutants.
