Registration with the web service WeatherObservationWebsite (WOW)
Note: We recommend the WeatherObservationWebsite only to more experienced users with
advanced command of English.
1) Enter the following web address https://wow.metoffice.gov.uk in your web browser, click on Sign
up in the upper right corner and then on New Account and fill the form. After completion click on
Register and wait for the e-mail for confirmation of your e-mail address and registration. Proceed
according to the instructions and login to your profile.
2) After login, it is necessary to create a new WOW network (WOW site). Networks means the way
WOW organizes data uploaded to the server. In essence, WOW will build a personalized webpage
for your weather station. There are two items associated with webpages that are needed to upload
data:
Site ID
o A number that distinguishes the page from anther. This number will appear (in
parentheses) next to or below the site name on the site information page, for
example: 6a571450-df53-e611-9401-0003ff5987fd
Authentication Key
o This is a six-digit number that is used to ensure that the data comes from you and not
from any other user.
By clicking on Enter a Site you start setup of the new pages. In the following form, enter the
location of the weather station and other details related to the requested webpage operation. After
completion of setup the message “Site Created!” appears.
Site ID
Make sure that you are (still) logged to the
WOW web. If you have been logged off,
login again. Now click on “My Sites” in the
navigation panel at the top. If you have only
1 “network”, its page is displayed. If you
have more, you have to select the correct
one. On this page you will find the site ID
directly beneath the map (see the image on
the right).
