What to do if my GE Air Conditioner does not start?
    • E
      Emily HopkinsAug 7, 2025
If your GE Air Conditioner doesn't start, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the air conditioner is fully plugged into the outlet. Check your house's fuse or circuit breaker box, replacing the fuse or resetting the breaker if necessary. If there was a power failure, the unit should restart automatically with your last settings once power returns. Note that there's a protective 3-minute delay to prevent compressor overload, so normal cooling might not begin immediately after turning it back on. Also, check the current interrupter device; press the RESET button on the power cord plug. If the RESET button doesn't stay engaged, stop using the air conditioner and contact a qualified technician.

Why is my GE Air Conditioner not cooling properly?
    • S
      Susan BlackAug 12, 2025
If your GE Air Conditioner isn't cooling as expected, several things could be happening. Make sure that curtains, blinds, or furniture aren't blocking the front of the unit, restricting airflow. If you have a model with touch pads, ensure the temperature is correctly set by pressing the Decrease – pad in Cool mode. For models with control knobs, turn the temperature knob to a higher number. A dirty air filter can also cause this issue, so clean the filter at least every 30 days. If the room was hot when you turned on the unit, allow time for it to cool down. Check for open furnace registers and cold air returns where cold air might be escaping. Finally, inspect for ice buildup on the cooling coils, which is addressed in the 'Air conditioner freezing up' section.

If your GE Air Conditioner is freezing up, it's likely that ice is blocking the airflow, preventing the unit from cooling the room. For models with control knobs, set the mode control to High Fan or High Cool with the Temp at 1 or 2. If you have a model with touch pads, set the controls to High Fan or High Cool and adjust the thermostat to a higher temperature.

Water collecting in the base pan of your GE Air Conditioner is normal. It happens because moisture is being removed from the air and draining into the pan. This is normal for a short period in areas with low humidity and normal for a longer period in very humid areas.
