Why is my GE GDF640 Dishwasher not filling with water?

  If the control panel of your GE Dishwasher responds to inputs but the dishwasher never fills with water, the door may not be completely closed; make sure the door is firmly closed. Also, the water valve may be turned off; make sure the water valve (usually located under the sink) is turned on. The flood float may be stuck; remove the Ultra-Fine Filter assembly and lightly tap the piece under the ultra fine filter assembly that looks like a dome, then replace the filter.

  If your GE Dishwasher won’t run, there are a few things to check. First, see if a fuse is blown or a circuit breaker is tripped; replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker and remove any other appliances from the circuit. Also, in some installations, the power to the dishwasher is provided through a wall switch; make sure it is on. Finally, the control panel might be locked; unlock the control panel, see the Getting started section.

  If water is standing in the bottom of the tub of your GE Dishwasher, the air gap might be clogged; clean the air gap, see the Care and Cleaning section. Also, check if a high drain loop or air gap is not installed; refer to the Installation Instructions for proper drain line installation.

Why is the start status indicator light flashing on my GE GDF640 Dishwasher?

  If your GE Dishwasher's start status indicator light is flashing, it means the door was opened or the cycle was interrupted. To restart the dishwasher, press the Start pad once and close the door within 4 seconds. If you want to cancel the cycle while the dishwasher is running, press the Start pad a second time.

How to remove stains from the tub interior of my GE Dishwasher?

Tomato-based foods can cause reddish stains; using the Steam Sani cycle after adding the dish can help decrease staining. Tea or coffee stains can be removed by hand with a solution of 1/2 cup bleach and 3 cups warm water, but avoid using bleach on stainless steel inner doors and wait at least 20 minutes after a cycle before cleaning. An overall yellow or brown film can be caused by iron deposits in water, which requires a special filter in the water supply line. White film can be caused by hard water minerals; use Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid and run the dishwasher with citric acid or Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner.

  Cloudiness on glassware in your GE Dishwasher can be due to a few reasons. If you have soft water and are using too much detergent, it can cause etching, which is permanent. Use less detergent and wash glassware in the shortest cycle. Also, low-performing phosphate-free detergents can cause cloudiness. If the water entering the dishwasher exceeds 150°F (66°C), lower the water heater temperature.

How to remove white film from glassware and interior of my GE GDF640 Dishwasher?

  A white film on glassware, dishware, and the interior of your GE Dishwasher is likely caused by a low-quality phosphate-free dishwasher detergent. To remove the film, run a cycle with citric acid, using a WD35X151 citric acid kit or Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner, placing it in the detergent cup and running a complete cycle without detergent, and without silverware or other metal items. Alternatively, you can use a vinegar rinse by pouring 1 cup of vinegar into the dishwasher just after the detergent cup opens and letting the dishwasher complete its cycle, repeating as needed. Using a rinse agent like Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid and a highly rated detergent such as Finish® Quantum® Automatic Dishwashing Detergent can help prevent future buildup.

White film on the inside surface can be caused by hard water minerals; GE Appliances recommends Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid to help prevent these deposits from forming.
