Overview

This document is an owner's manual for GE Profile™ Dishwashers, specifically models PDW7300, PDW7700, PDW7800, and PDW7880. It provides comprehensive information on safety, operation, loading, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The GE Profile Dishwasher is designed to clean dishes, glasses, flatware, cookware, and plastic items using various wash cycles and enhancements. It features an ExtraClean™ Sensor that automatically measures soil levels and water temperature to optimize wash performance. The appliance aims to provide efficient and effective dishwashing while offering user-friendly controls and maintenance options.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual details water consumption and cycle lengths for different wash cycles:

  • Anti-Bacteria Cycle:
    • Heavy: 9.1 gal., 91 min.
    • Medium: 7.8 gal., 89 min.
    • Light: 6.5 gal., 87 min.
    • This cycle raises water temperature in the final rinse for sanitization. It is monitored for sanitization requirements and may not meet conditions if interrupted or if incoming water temperature is too low. NSF-certified residential dishwashers are not intended for licensed food establishments.
  • Cookware Cycle:
    • Heavy: 10.4 gal., 102 min.
    • Medium: 9.1 gal., 76 min.
    • Light: 7.8 gal., 72 min.
    • Designed for heavily soiled dishes or cookware with dried-on or baked-on soils, though it may not remove burned-on foods.
  • Normal Wash Cycle:
    • Heavy: 9.1 gal., 77 min.
    • Medium: 6.5 gal., 62 min.
    • Light: 5.2 gal., 49 min.
    • For medium/heavily soiled dishes and glassware.
  • Speed Cycle:
    • Heavy: 7.8 gal., 37 min.
    • Medium: 6.5 gal., 33 min.
    • Light: 5.2 gal., 29 min.
    • For everyday dishes and glassware.
  • China Crystal Cycle:
    • Heavy: 9.1 gal., 52 min.
    • Medium: 7.8 gal., 45 min.
    • Light: 6.5 gal., 38 min.
    • For lightly soiled china and crystal.
  • Glasses Cycle (on some models):
    • Heavy: 9.1 gal., 49 min.
    • Medium: 7.8 gal., 42 min.
    • Light: 6.5 gal., 40 min.
    • Specifically designed for glasses.
  • Rinse Only Cycle:
    • Heavy: 2.6 gal., 7 min.
    • Light: 1.3 gal., 4 min.
    • For rinsing partial loads; no detergent should be used. The dishwasher requires an inlet water temperature between 120°F and 150°F for effective cleaning and to prevent dish damage. Supply conductors rated at least 75°C (167°F) are required for installation.

Usage Features

The dishwasher features a control panel with status indicator lights (SENSING, WASHING, RINSING, DRYING, SANITIZED, CLEAN) to show the current operation phase. Some models include a Time Remaining Display.

  • Wash Cycles: Multiple cycles are available, tailored for different soil levels and item types.
  • Enhancements:
    • Pre Wash: Adds 16 minutes to the cycle for heavily soiled items (cannot be used with Rinse Only).
    • Heated Dry: Turns on the heater for faster drying, extending cycle time by 8 minutes for Speed Cycle and 30 minutes for other cycles (cannot be used with Rinse Only). An option to turn Heated Dry OFF is available to save energy.
    • Lock Controls: Prevents accidental selections or starts. Activated by holding the HEATED DRY pad for 3 seconds.
    • Added Heat: Extends the cycle with heating elements for improved wash and dry performance (cannot be used with Rinse Only).
    • Delay Hours: Delays the start of a cycle for up to 9 hours.
    • Reset: Cancels the current cycle and drains water, allowing for reprogramming.
  • Detergent Use: Only powder, tabs, or liquid detergents specifically designed for dishwashers should be used. The amount of detergent depends on water hardness, with guidelines provided for soft, medium, medium hard, and extremely hard water.
  • Rinse Agent: Jet-Dry® rinse agent is recommended to prevent spots and film buildup. The dispenser holds 3.5 oz. and has an adjustable setting for the amount released.
  • Loading: Detailed instructions are provided for loading upper and lower racks for 10 or 12 place settings, including tips for glasses, cups, saucers, pots, pans, plates, and silverware. The upper rack is adjustable, and fold-down tines offer flexibility. The three-piece silverware basket can be configured to accommodate various flatware sizes and small plastic items.
  • Adding a Forgotten Dish: Dishes can be added any time before the main wash by pausing the cycle, opening the door, adding the dish, and closing the door.

Maintenance Features

  • Control Panel and Exterior Cleaning: Use a lightly dampened cloth for the control panel, then dry thoroughly. A good appliance polish wax is recommended for the exterior.
  • Stainless Steel Panels: Can be cleaned with Stainless Steel Magic or a similar product using a clean, soft cloth.
  • Air Gap: If present, the air gap should be checked and cleaned if the dishwasher is not draining well. This involves turning off the dishwasher, lifting the chrome cover, removing the plastic cap, and cleaning with a toothpick.
  • Protect Against Freezing: For dishwashers in unheated places during winter, it's advised to cut off electrical power, turn off the water supply, disconnect the water inlet line, and drain water from the water inlet line and water valve.
  • Troubleshooting Tips: The manual includes extensive troubleshooting charts for common issues such as control panel lights going off, noise, detergent left in dispenser, water standing in the tub, water not pumping out, suds, stained tub interior, dishes not clean, dishes not drying, and Sanitized light not illuminating. Solutions range from repositioning dishes and checking water temperature to cleaning the air gap and adjusting detergent use. For hard water film or spots, a vinegar or citric acid rinse is suggested.
