Overview

The JM-2900 Gas Jet is a gas-powered water jet designed for professional drain cleaning and other high-pressure water applications. It is a robust and portable unit, featuring a hose reel, a pressure gauge, an output valve, a pump, an inlet filter, and a pulse valve, all mounted on a wheeled frame with an engine and a toolbox.

Function Description:

The primary function of the JM-2900 Jet-Set is to clear blockages in drain lines using high-pressure water. It operates by propelling a specialized nozzle through pipes, with rear-facing jets driving the hose forward and cleaning pipe walls, and optional forward-facing jets to cut through stoppages. The machine is designed for outdoor use in well-ventilated areas due to engine exhaust. It can be used for various applications, from clearing floor drains and septic lines to kitchen sinks and smaller bathroom lines. Specialty nozzles, including spring leader, down head, rotary, and chain saw nozzles, enhance its versatility for navigating complex pipe configurations, thorough cleaning, and root removal. The optional Vibra-Pulse® feature helps the hose overcome friction and navigate tight bends by generating vibrations. The machine can also be used with a spray wand for general pressure washing tasks, such as cleaning trucks or other surfaces, and can incorporate a chemical injector for detergent application.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Hose Reel Capacity: 400 ft.
  • Maximum Water Temperature: 140°F (60°C). Operating above this temperature risks pump damage and voids the warranty.
  • Water Supply Pressure: Minimum 20 psi, not to exceed 100 psi.
  • Hose Sizes: Available in 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8" internal diameter (ID) to suit different pipe sizes and applications.
    • 1/8" hose: For 1-1/2" - 2" small lines, bathroom sinks, tight bends (30 ft., 50 ft., 75 ft. lengths).
    • 1/4" hose: For 2" - 4" kitchen sinks, laundry drains, clean outs (100 ft., 150 ft., 200 ft. lengths).
    • 3/8" hose: For 4" - 8" floor drains, septic lines, long runs (100 ft., 200 ft. lengths).
  • Nozzle Types: Various nozzles with different spray patterns (15° for driving power, 40° for wall cleaning) and purposes (penetrating, flushing, specialty, rotary, chain saw). Nozzles are stamped with a number indicating their design (e.g., #52 for JN-52, drilled for 4 GPM @ 3000 PSI with 15° rear jets and one forward cutting jet).
  • Engine: Honda engine (JM1-0086). Specific oil requirements should be checked in the motor manufacturer's manual.
  • Pump: TX1510G8 pump with external bypass (JM851-0427).
  • Pump Oil: SAE 30 weight non-detergent oil.
  • Pressure Unloader: Regulates pressure to prevent overload and allows the pump to run in bypass mode for short periods (no more than 5 minutes) without damage.
  • Thermal Overload Protection: Releases hot water and allows cool water to enter the pump if water temperature exceeds 140°F (60°C).

Usage Features:

  • Hose Selection Guide: Provides recommendations for hose diameter and length based on pipe size and application, considering pressure loss over distance.
  • Nozzle Selection Guide: Helps users choose the appropriate nozzle for specific tasks, including penetrating grease and ice, flushing pipes, and navigating bends.
  • Vibra-Pulse®: An optional feature that causes the hose to vibrate, reducing friction and aiding in navigating tight bends. Most effective with 1/8" hose.
  • Gas Engine Start-Up: Detailed procedure including choke, throttle, engine switch, and starter grip operation.
  • Operation Procedure: Guides users on selecting hose and nozzle, inserting the hose, turning on water supply and output valve, purging air, and guiding the hose through the drain line. Emphasizes moving the hose forward and back to break up stoppages.
  • Ice Blockage Clearing: High-pressure water can clear ice blockages, with a 3000 psi gas jet clearing a 4" line at approximately one foot per minute.
  • Freeze Protection: Instructions for winterizing the machine by flushing the system with anti-freeze or clearing residual water with compressed air to prevent damage in freezing temperatures.
  • Optional Accessories:
    • Handy-Reel with Foot Pedal (Cat # HM-200-W): Allows remote operation, positioning the jet at ground level or on a roof, and using the foot pedal to interrupt water flow, freeing hands to guide the hose.
    • Foot Pedal Only (Cat # FM-1): Provides hands-free operation by interrupting water flow between the pump and nozzle.
    • Spray Wand (Cat#SWA-3000): For general pressure washing, with adjustable nozzle barrel for spray pattern and detergent flow.
    • Chemical Injector (Cat # CMA-1): Allows drawing detergent solution through the spray wand for cleaning applications.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Inspection:
    • Check inlet filter for debris.
    • Check pump oil level (dipstick or sight glass).
    • Check jet nozzles for clogging or wear.
  • Weekly Inspection:
    • Check pressure hose for wear and damage.
  • Pump Crankcase Oil Change: First service after 1st month or 20 hours, then annually or every 500 hours. Use SAE 30W Non-Detergent Motor Oil.
  • Engine Maintenance: Refer to the engine manual for specific maintenance procedures.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Comprehensive guide for diagnosing and resolving common issues such as low pressure, rough operation, water/oil leaks, excessive wear, and irregular spray patterns, with probable causes and solutions.
  • Parts Lists and Schematic Diagrams: Detailed lists and diagrams (pages 10-13) for identifying and ordering replacement parts for the main unit and pump assembly.
