Overview

The GENPOWER GDG SERIES is a range of diesel portable generators designed for various applications, offering reliable power generation with a focus on durability, efficiency, and user-friendliness. These generators are manufactured in compliance with international standards such as ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004, ensuring high quality and environmental compatibility.

Function Description

The primary function of the GENPOWER GDG SERIES generators is to provide a portable source of electrical power, particularly in situations where a reliable utility power supply is unavailable or unreliable. These units are designed to convert the mechanical energy from a diesel engine into electrical energy, making them suitable for both standby and prime power applications. The generators are equipped with advanced technology diesel engines and high-quality alternators, ensuring efficient and stable power output. They feature a direct fuel injection system and an automatic voltage stabilizer (AVR) to maintain consistent voltage levels, crucial for protecting connected devices. The GDG series also includes safety features such as a low oil pressure alarm and circuit protectors (NFB) to prevent damage to the engine and electrical components. The generators are designed to operate under heavy-duty conditions, with a tropical 50 °C radiator for effective cooling and a compact, silent, patented design canopy that reduces noise levels, making them suitable for use in various environments.

Usage Features

The GENPOWER GDG SERIES generators are designed for ease of use, though careful adherence to the operating manual is essential for safe and efficient operation. Before starting, users must ensure the generator is placed on a flat surface and that the oil tank is filled to the appropriate level, as the generators are shipped without oil. The recommended oil type is 15W40, and users should regularly check the oil level using the dipstick. The fuel system requires light, clean diesel fuel, and it's crucial to avoid overfilling the tank or allowing dust and water to mix with the fuel.

Starting the generator involves a few key steps: inserting the key into the start switch and turning it to the "OFF" position, moving the speed lever to the "RUN" position, and then turning the start switch clockwise to the "START" position. For silent type generators, an intermediate "RUN" (ON) position is used for 1-2 seconds to trigger the electromagnetic iron before moving to "START." It is critical that the circuit breaker is in the "OFF" position before starting to prevent dangerous situations, and the generator should always be grounded to prevent electric shock. If the engine doesn't start after 10 seconds of cranking, a 15-second wait is recommended before trying again to avoid draining the battery.

When connecting loads, it's advised to start with larger loads first and then add smaller ones, ensuring the total load does not exceed the generator's maximum output power. The voltmeter should be observed to ensure the output voltage is within the specified range (230V/400V±5% for 50Hz or 240V±5% for 60Hz). The generator's speed can be adjusted via the speed governor to achieve the desired frequency (50/60Hz). For generators with an electric starter, the 12V battery is automatically charged when the engine is running. For prolonged storage, the battery should be disconnected to prevent energy loss.

Stopping the generator involves disconnecting all loads, allowing the engine to run for 3 minutes in the "RUN" position after unloading to cool down gradually, and then turning the key switch to the "OFF" position. Abrupt shutdowns can lead to abnormal engine temperatures and potential damage.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the GENPOWER GDG SERIES generators. The manual outlines a comprehensive maintenance schedule, emphasizing daily checks, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual tasks. Key maintenance activities include:

  • Oil Check and Change: The oil level should be checked daily or every 5 hours of operation. Oil changes are recommended after the first 5 hours of use, then every 50 working hours under normal conditions, or every 25 hours under high temperatures and loads. Draining the oil when the engine is warm is easier and more effective.
  • Air Filter Maintenance: The air filter should be cleaned every 500 hours or 6 months and replaced if necessary, especially if engine performance decreases or exhaust gases are discolored. It's vital never to operate the engine without the air filter to prevent foreign objects from entering the intake system and causing severe damage.
  • Fuel Filter Maintenance: The fuel filter should be cleaned every 3 months or 100 hours to ensure maximum performance. This involves draining fuel from the tank, removing the filter, and cleaning it with diesel fuel. The fuel injector should also be cleaned of carbon deposits.
  • Generator Cleaning: The generator should be kept free of dirt and debris using a cloth or brush. Water jet washing is not recommended due to potential damage to the fuel system, alternator winding, and electrical equipment. Air ducts on the engine body and alternator air outlet windows must be kept open and clean to ensure proper cooling. The starter guard area should also be cleaned every 100 hours or season.
  • Battery Maintenance: For accumulator-started generators, regular battery maintenance and cleaning are essential. The battery electrolyte level should be checked and kept clean. Users are warned about the corrosive nature of accumulator acid and the flammable gases produced during charging.
  • Valve Clearance and Cylinder Cover Wash: These are annual checks and adjustments to ensure the engine operates efficiently.
  • Fuel Tank Replacement: The fuel tank is recommended to be replaced every 3 years.

For long-term storage, specific preparations include running the engine for 3 minutes, changing the engine oil while hot, adding lubricating oil to the cylinder head, and cranking the engine for a few seconds with the decompression handle down (without starting) to distribute the oil. The genset should then be cleaned and stored in a dry place.

The manual strongly advises against unauthorized repairs or maintenance, as this will void the guarantee. Users are encouraged to utilize authorized services and original spare parts for all maintenance and repair needs. Safety measures, such as disconnecting the spark plug wire and accumulator terminals before servicing, are emphasized to prevent accidental starts and ensure user safety.
