Also, inspect the spark plug by removing it, inserting the spark plug cover, and touching it with the engine to see if there is a spark. Other potential causes include a malfunctioning fuel pump (check and adjust), a carburetor fuel level that's too high (check for fuel inside), a defective magneto coil (check ignition timing with a lamp), a stuck piston ring (measure compression pressure), cylinder gasket leakage (start the engine following instructions), or a bad auto choke (remove the spark plug and check again).
