This document describes the Giraffe Tools Retractable Hose Reel, Model AW25. It is designed for convenient and efficient watering tasks, featuring an automatic retraction system and durable construction.
Function Description
The Giraffe Tools Retractable Hose Reel is designed to store and manage a garden hose, automatically retracting it after use. It aims to simplify watering tasks by preventing kinks and tangles, and providing easy access to the hose when needed. The reel can be mounted on a wall or post, allowing for flexible placement near a water source. It includes a multi-function hose nozzle for various spraying needs. The auto-retraction mechanism ensures the hose is neatly stored, extending its lifespan and keeping the workspace tidy.

Usage Features
Installation:
The hose reel can be mounted on a solid wall or a wooden post. It is recommended to install the hose reel at a height of approximately 31 inches (78.7 cm) above the ground to maximize the auto-retraction function. The installation process involves marking holes using a template, drilling, inserting anchors (for wall mounting), and securing the bracket with screws. For wooden posts, screws can be driven directly into the wood without anchors. Once the bracket is secure, the hose reel slides into place and is fastened with a small screw at the bottom. The leader hose connects to the faucet, and the nozzle connects to the main hose.
Hose Operation (Lock/Extend):
To extend the hose, pull it to the desired length and stop; the hose will lock in place. To extend it further, pull the hose once more and stop at the new desired length.
Hose Operation (Retract/Shorten):
To unlock the hose and initiate retraction, give it a small tug and release the force. The hose will begin to retract. To shorten the hose to a specific length, let it retract to that point, then pull it out slightly and stop. It's important to always gently retract the hose to prevent damage to the reel and nozzle. The self-segmenting mechanism is designed to weave the hose neatly into the reel, preventing kinks and tangles, especially when walking backward at a steady speed during retraction.
Recommended Usage Practices:
- Before retracting, turn off the faucet and squeeze the nozzle trigger to release any residual pressure.
- Always retract the hose after each use.
- There is a "STOP" indication sticker 3.28 feet (approximately 1 meter) before the maximum length. Do not pull the hose past this point, as it can damage the retraction mechanism.
Removing the Hose Reel from the Bracket:
To remove the hose reel for storage or maintenance, loosen the small screw on the bottom of the bracket, then lift the hose reel out.

Problem Guide and Troubleshooting:
The manual provides guidance for common issues:
- Bracket fell off the wall: Check if the bracket was installed correctly.
- Hose not retracting fully: Turn off the faucet, pull out the hose completely, release excess pressure by squeezing the nozzle trigger, unscrew and disconnect the nozzle, then retract the hose. Check for physical damage to the reel.
- Hose cannot be retracted or extended: The hose might be jammed. Pull the hose firmly until it is fully extended, then retract it slowly while walking with the hose.
- Leakage near leader hose connection: Tighten the connection, ensure correct threading, and check for the presence of an o-ring.
- Hose is hard to pull: Confirm the reel is installed at an appropriate height (parallel to the user) to prevent rubbing. Check for physical damage.
For persistent issues, customers are advised to contact Giraffe Tools customer service with a video and order number.
Hose Kinks:
- Extend the hose fully and open the faucet to eliminate kinks.
- Ensure the reel is installed at the correct height to prevent rubbing and kinks.
- Avoid leaving the hose extended for long periods, especially if it might be pressed by heavy objects.
Low Water Pressure:
- Remove the nozzle and check water pressure to rule out nozzle issues.
- Fully extend the hose, check for kinks, and open the faucet completely to ensure full water flow.
- Connect the nozzle end of the hose to the faucet to allow water to flow in the opposite direction and clear blockages.
Bracket Cracking:
Contact customer service with the order number and a picture of the issue.
General Maintenance Guidelines:
- DO NOT ALLOW THE HOSE TO RETRACT AT HIGH SPEED UNASSISTED: This can damage the hose reel and nozzle. Always walk backward at a steady pace with the hose in hand.
- DO NOT OPEN THE HOSE REEL CASING: Unscrewing the case voids the warranty. The internal spring mechanism is under tension and is dangerous. For leaks or retraction problems, contact customer service.
- DO NOT LEAVE THE FAUCET TURNED ON WHEN NOT IN USE: This puts unnecessary pressure on the hose.
- DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE HOSE REEL BY YOURSELF: Internal metal parts are irreplaceable.
- DO NOT EXPOSE THE HOSE REEL TO THE COLD ENVIRONMENT IN WINTER: Plastic can become brittle, and water in the hose can freeze and crack the hose.
- CLEANING THE HOSE: Wipe the hose with a damp cloth to prevent dust and sand from being pulled into the reel, which could damage the lock and retraction mechanism.
- DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICALS: Avoid using chemicals like dialysis, petroleum solvents, or lactic acid on the hose, as they can cause damage.
- DO NOT IMMERSE THE HOSE REEL IN WATER: Clean the housing with a damp cloth. The outer shell is UV stabilized for continuous use.
