Overview

The GJD Emerald MK3 Lighting Controller is a dual-area security lighting controller designed to accurately monitor external areas. It automatically switches on up to 3000 watts of lighting at night for a pre-set period and can be manually overridden when required. The controller incorporates an audible warning tone and features six detector indicators that illuminate when activated by detection, both day and night.

Function Description:

The controller manages two independent lighting zones. When a detector is activated, day or night, the relevant detector indicator flickers and remains on for the duration of the timer setting. During darkness, the lighting for the activated zone will automatically switch on while the detector receives activation signals and will turn off after the preset timer period. The 'Zone 1' and 'Zone 2' green indicators must be selected for automatic lighting control on detection during darkness. A manually selectable yellow indicator allows the lighting for both zones to be turned 'on' continuously, overriding the automatic mode. Turning this indicator 'off' returns the system to automatic mode. The controller also features an audible warning tone, which sounds on detection day and night. This tone can be button-selected and provides a steady tone for Zone 1 and a pulsed tone for Zone 2. The audible warning tone can be switched off for both zones.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Supply: 230Vac 50Hz via ELCB/MCB, with the unit fused at 13A.
  • 12VDC Output: Provides 100mA for GJD Opal XL (6mA) or Elite Detectors (10mA). An optional external 12VDC piezo sounder can draw up to 50mA.
  • Indication: Six 24-hour detector indicators that pulse during detection and remain steady after detection for the duration of the light-on timer setting.
  • Audible: Internal warning tone that sounds on detection day and night, button selectable. Steady tone for Zone 1, pulsed tone for Zone 2.
  • Control: Controls up to 12 GJD detectors. Switches two independent areas of lighting with manual override.
  • Options:
    • Ability to link both lighting areas together.
    • Ability to have a timed auxiliary output.
    • Ability to activate lighting when linked to an intruder alarm panel.
  • Dimensions: 146mm (W) x 86mm (H) x 56mm (D).
  • Weight: 507gm.
  • Mounting: Indoor use only. Mount in a clean, dry location on a secure flat surface.
  • Temperature: -10°C to +55°C.
  • CE Certification: Self-contained - Class 2 independently mounted control.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Lighting: Configurable for automatic lighting activation in darkness based on detector input.
  • Manual Override: Allows users to manually turn on lighting for both zones, bypassing automatic control.
  • Audible Warning: Provides an optional audible alert upon detection, with distinct tones for each zone.
  • Detector Indicators: Visual feedback on detector activation, pulsing during detection and remaining steady for the light-on duration.
  • Auxiliary Output (AUX): An auxiliary output (50mA maximum) can be configured.
    • OFF: Internal sounder and auxiliary output disabled.
    • STD: Internal sounder and auxiliary output active, emitting a warning tone on detection when selected.
    • 10-30 seconds: Sets the auxiliary output time after the last detection, with the internal sounder behaving as per STD.
  • Light On Time: Adjustable from 1 to 24 minutes, determining how long the lights stay on after the last detection during darkness. The red detector indicators also stay on for this duration.
  • Pulse Count: This feature helps prevent false activations. It determines the number of detector beams that must be crossed to trigger the system.
    • 1: Fast response.
    • 2: Better immunity with good response.
    • 3: Highest immunity to false activations in poor environments but is less responsive.
  • Walk Test Mode: A specific setting (indicated by a walking person symbol) assists in locating and aligning detector beams during daylight installations. In this mode, external lights stay on for 6 seconds when detector beams are activated.

Maintenance Features:

  • Factory Settings Adjustment: When the unit is connected to the electrical supply or when the supply is interrupted, indicators will flash for one minute while the system settles. Pressing any button during this time will start normal operation.
  • Internal Adjustments Panel: Provides access to settings for AUX (Auxiliary Output), LIGHT ON TIME (in minutes), and PULSE COUNT. These settings are typically configured during installation or maintenance.
  • Installation: The manual emphasizes that installation should be performed by qualified personnel only, particularly for mains voltage connections. It provides detailed wiring diagrams for both mains voltage and low voltage connections, including connections for GJD detectors and optional external sounders.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: The manual includes contact information for technical support, sales, and general inquiries, indicating that GJD reserves the right to alter specifications without notice.
