Overview

The device described in the manual is a Green Mountain Grills (GMG) Ledge Prime 2.0 wood pellet grill, designed for outdoor cooking. This electric appliance offers a versatile wood-fired grilling experience, allowing users to smoke, roast, bake, and sear various foods.

Function Description:

The GMG Ledge Prime 2.0 grill operates on a 12V direct power system, which allows for precise temperature control, greater pellet fuel economy, and faster startups. It utilizes a micro-adjusted variable speed fan and auger motor to feed food-safe hardwood pellets into a firebox. An igniter automatically lights the pellets, and a combustion fan provides oxygen to sustain the fire. The Venturi-Style firebox design, lined with vertical vents, creates a burn pot cyclone of airflow for maximum heat distribution and complete combustion with minimal waste. A heat shield covers the firebox, distributing heat to both sides of the grill and flowing up into the convection-style grill chamber. A thermal sensor inside the grill sends data to an on-board computer 10 times per second, which adjusts air and pellet flow to maintain the set temperature. The grill offers a wide temperature range from 150°F to 550°F, enabling various cooking methods from low-and-slow smoking to high-heat searing.

Usage Features:

The grill is designed for ease of use and smart control. It features a digital controller with a display that shows temperature and status codes. Users can adjust the temperature using up and down increment controls. The grill also includes two food probe connections for monitoring internal meat temperatures, with dedicated buttons on the controller to switch between grill and probe temperature displays. A USB connection is available for charging phones or other devices.

One of the key usage features is the WiFi Smart Control, which allows users to control and monitor the grill and internal meat temperatures remotely via a smartphone app connected to their local WiFi network.

The grill's chamber is redesigned with a rounded/peaked hybrid shape for optimal heat distribution and smoke circulation, providing a 360° wood-fired cooking experience. The elevated lid design accommodates larger cooks and enhances wood flavor.

The GMG Ledge Prime 2.0 supports several attachments for enhanced versatility:

  • SideBURN™: An attachment for quick, high-heat infrared searing and a secondary cooking surface with fine-tune adjusting.
  • RACK™ System: A technology system that allows for easy attachment of elevated racks, smoke shelves, and cooking pans, expanding the grilling capacity.
  • Wood-Fired Pizza: An attachment that transforms the grill into a wood-fired pizza oven for artisan pizzas.
  • BBQ Rotisserie: Built-in rotisserie mount brackets enable easy installation of a rotisserie for juicy and flavorful smokes.

For initial setup, users must prime the firebox by running pellets through the auger tube until they emerge into the firebox. Before first use, the grill must be seasoned by burning it at 350°F for 30 minutes to remove manufacturing residues. The grill's startup cycle involves an auger turning to push pellets, an igniter heating up, and a fan and igniter establishing proof of fire, eventually reaching 150°F before users can set their desired cooking temperature. Proper airflow is ensured by keeping the hopper lid, pellet dump door, and AshVac door closed during operation.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the grill's performance and safety.

  • Ash Removal: The inside of the grill, including the base and firebox, should be cleaned with a Shop-Vac approximately every 2-3 bags of pellets (80-100 lbs or 36-45 kgs) to remove ash and residue. This prevents creosote buildup and ensures proper ignition.
  • Grease Tray Cleaning: Grates and the grease tray must be cleaned regularly to prevent flammable buildup and grease fires. Lining the grease tray with aluminum foil is suggested for easier cleanup. The grease tray must be installed correctly with the circle cut-out to the left and the half-moon crescent to the right to ensure proper grease flow into the trough and bucket. The hole in the grease tray should not be covered by foil to maintain proper airflow.
  • Chimney Cap: The underside of the chimney cap should be wiped down regularly to prevent grease drips.
  • Heat Shield: The heat shield must be installed properly, positioned roughly 9.5 inches (241.3 mm) from the left inside grill wall, using the adjustment rod. This ensures even heat distribution and reduces the risk of grease fires.
  • General Cleaning: The inside of the grill can be cleaned with hot, soapy water or grill cleaner, keeping liquids away from the auger tube and pellets. Alternatively, running the grill at 500°F for an hour can bake off internal residues.
  • Pellet Management: Pellets should be stored in a cool, dry place. Users should check the hopper occasionally to ensure it doesn't run out during cooking. Water must not enter the pellet hopper, as wet pellets turn into sawdust and will not feed properly.
  • Storage: Using a grill cover is recommended to protect the grill from rain and snow, ensuring it is completely dry before covering.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the grill not turning on, not reaching temperature, smoke coming from the hopper, erratic temperature readings, uneven heating, ignition failures (FAL message), and auger jamming. It emphasizes checking for obstructions, proper component installation, and clean firebox conditions.

The grill is designed with modular parts, allowing for easy replacement if machinery components fail. Users are advised to always unplug the grill before performing any service or maintenance.
