Overview

This manual describes the Green Mountain Grills (GMG) Ledge & Peak Prime Wood Fired Pellet Grill, an 8-in-1 outdoor cooking appliance designed for versatility and ease of use. The grill is capable of grilling, smoking, slow-cooking, barbecuing, braising, roasting, baking, and searing, all at the touch of a button. It is an electric appliance that uses food-safe hardwood pellets as fuel.

Function Description:

The GMG pellet grill operates on a 12V Direct Power design, featuring a micro-adjusted variable speed fan and auger motor. This system ensures precise temperature control, greater fuel economy, and reduced waste. Pellets are fed from the hopper by an auger into a firebox, where an igniter automatically lights them. A combustion fan provides oxygen to sustain the fire. The Venturi-Style firebox design, with vertical vents, creates a burn pot cyclone of airflow for maximum heat distribution and complete combustion. A heat shield covers the firebox, distributing heat evenly throughout the convection-style grill chamber. A thermal sensor inside the grill sends data to the on-board computer ten times per second, allowing the digital controller to adjust air and pellet flow to maintain the set temperature.

Usage Features:

The grill features a digital controller with a readout display for temperature and status codes. It includes signal indicator lights, temperature up and down controls (in 5-degree increments), and buttons to toggle between probe temperature and grill temperature, as well as between two meat probes. A Fahrenheit/Celsius toggle is also available. The On/Off button controls the start/stop of the grill program, while a separate power switch controls the electrical power to the grill. Two food probe connections and a WiFi antenna connection are provided for smart control.

The startup cycle involves several stages:

  1. Auger & Igniter (80 seconds): The auger turns on, pushing pellets into the firebox, and the igniter starts heating the pellets.
  2. Igniter (90 seconds): The igniter continues to heat the pellets.
  3. Fan & Igniter (30 seconds): The combustion fan turns on to ignite the pellets.
  4. Fan & Igniter (30 seconds): The fan and igniter establish proof of fire. After these cycles, the grill automatically heats to 150°F (66°C), at which point the user can adjust to their desired temperature. It typically takes 15-20 minutes to reach the set temperature. The grill should always be operated with the lid closed for optimal convection cooking.

The grill is equipped with a hydraulic opening lid, internal grill lights, stainless steel top and bottom grates, side shelves, safe locking lid fasteners, and brake, turn, and tail light signals for the trailer rig. A grease drip bucket collects drippings. The pellet hopper has a large capacity, and a pellet hopper window allows monitoring of pellet levels. A fold-out step provides access, and an accessory product power outlet and USB plug-in offer additional functionality.

For remote operation, the grill can be controlled via a remote control or a cell phone application. Users must ensure all safety precautions are observed and a responsible adult is in close proximity to the grill when operating remotely.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the grill's performance and safety.

  • Grill Cleaning: The interior of the grill should be cleaned regularly (about every 2-3 bags of pellets or 80-100 lbs) using a Shop-Vac to remove ash and residue from the base and firebox. All interior parts should be removed before vacuuming.
  • Grates and Grease Tray: These should be cleaned regularly with a wire brush or aluminum foil. The grease tray should be kept clean to prevent grease fires, and can be lined with aluminum foil or Drip EZ Grease Tray Liners. The thermal sensor hole on the left side of the tray should not be covered.
  • Chimney Cap: The underside of the chimney cap should be wiped down regularly to prevent grease drip.
  • Drip System: The trough where grease drains into the discharge spout should be kept clean and free of debris.
  • Firebox: Ash should be cleaned out periodically to prevent it from covering the igniter, which can hinder lighting.
  • Grill Interior: The inside of the grill should be cleaned regularly with hot, soapy water or a grill cleaner, keeping liquids away from the auger tube and pellets. Alternatively, the grill can be run at 500°F for an hour or more to bake off internal residues.
  • Grill Lid Window: The window can be cleaned with steel wool if it discolors over time.
  • Pellet Storage: Pellets should be stored in a cool, dry place to prevent them from getting wet and turning into sawdust.
  • Grill Protection: Using a grill cover is recommended to protect the grill from rain and snow, which can cause pellets to swell and harden in the auger tube.

The manual also provides troubleshooting tips for common issues such as the grill not turning on, not reaching temperature, erratic temperature, smoke coming out of the hopper, loud clicking sounds from the auger, and ignition failures (FAL message). It emphasizes the importance of ensuring proper heat shield placement and checking for obstructions in the auger and burn pot. For any issues, users are advised to contact technical support.
