Overview

The D1000 Series are DIN-rail mounting intrinsically safe isolators designed for high channel density and reliable operation in various industrial environments. These modules are engineered to provide intrinsic safety parameters, schematic diagrams, connections, and instructions directly on their enclosure via laser engraving.

Function Description:

The D1000 Series modules serve as intrinsically safe isolators, enabling the connection of field devices in hazardous areas to control systems in safe areas while maintaining electrical isolation and preventing the propagation of energy that could ignite flammable atmospheres. They are designed to be highly configurable, supporting various input and output types, sensor configurations, burnout conditions, alarm modes (High/Low), relay settings (NE/ND), alarm trip points, hysteresis values, and ON/OFF alarm delays.

The modules can be powered by a 12-24 Vdc supply, either directly through their plug-in terminal block or via the Power Bus System. The Power Bus System, consisting of a standard DIN-Rail and modules with bus connectors, allows for a maximum powering capacity of 8 Amp. A key feature of the Power Bus System is the ability to remove modules without disconnecting the bus connection. When the Power Bus is utilized, supply contacts on terminal blocks are omitted to prevent accidental short circuits. The system also provides a cumulative Fault Alarm indication via the bus connection, which is common with the supply and can drive a remote indication, typically through a D1091S module.

Configuration of the D1000 Series "smart" barriers is performed using either the PPC1090 Pocket Portable Configurator or the PPC1092 Serial Adapter. The PPC1090 is a small, portable device that powers directly from the unit and features a 5-digit display, 4 LEDs, and four push buttons for menu-driven configuration. It is suitable for use in Safe Area/Non-Hazardous Locations. The PPC1092 adapter facilitates configuration via a PC software program (SWC1090) and acts as an interface for RS232 serial communication. The SWC1090 software provides a user-friendly interface to read and write configuration parameters, store/restore data, load factory default configurations, monitor input values, and print configuration reports.

Usage Features:

  • High Packing Density: The innovative circuit design and ultra-slim form factor allow for a high number of channels in a compact space, optimizing cabinet utilization.
  • Easy Installation and Removal: Units mount on a 35 mm DIN Rail. Removal involves inserting a screwdriver into the metallic part of the mounting foot to lever the spring catch open.
  • Removable PCB: The plug-in PCB can be easily removed for service or maintenance operations by applying slight pressure on both sides of the front panel using a tool, then slowly pulling out the front panel and PCB.
  • Power Bus System: Simplifies wiring, reduces cable requirements, and lowers costs by providing power and fault alarm indication across multiple modules without individual wiring. Modules can be added or removed without disrupting the bus connection.
  • Clear Indication: LEDs on the front panel provide visual cues for power, status, and fault conditions. Terminal identification is also clearly marked.
  • Configuration Tools:
    • PPC1090 Pocket Portable Configurator: Offers on-site, battery-free configuration directly from the module, ideal for quick adjustments without a PC.
    • PPC1092 Serial Adapter with SWC1090 Software: Provides comprehensive configuration capabilities via a PC, including advanced parameter settings, data backup, and report generation. The software is freely distributed and allows for monitoring input values.
  • Cabinet Installation Guidelines: Detailed recommendations are provided for optimal placement of isolators within cabinets to manage heat dissipation, including horizontal or vertical mounting, positioning higher dissipation units in the upper part, and maintaining minimum distances (e.g., 6 cm) between isolators and cable channels. Different cabinet types (closed, open, with forced ventilation, or air-conditioned) are discussed with their respective power dissipation capabilities.

Maintenance Features:

  • No Particular Maintenance Required: D1000 Series modules are designed for trouble-free operation and high stability over long periods under normal conditions.
  • Service and Recalibration: If a unit does not meet specifications or is in a failure condition, it requires recalibration or servicing.
  • Unauthorized Repair Prohibited: Any repair performed by unauthorized personnel will invalidate the safety characteristics of the card. Repairs must be conducted by GM International or its authorized representatives.
  • Replacement of Defective Units: In case of a barrier failure, the defective card should be replaced with a good one and sent for repair to the nearest authorized GM International representative.
  • Storage Recommendations: For units not immediately installed, specific storage conditions are advised:
    • Temperature: -20 to +60 °C (preferred -10 to +30 °C for long periods).
    • Humidity: 0 to 90% (preferred 0 to 60% for long periods to maintain package integrity).
    • Vibration: Avoid prolonged vibration to prevent loosening of parts or fatigue ruptures.
    • Pollution: Avoid pollutant or corrosive gases/vapors to prevent corrosion and degradation of insulating surfaces.
  • Disposal: The product should not be disposed of with general waste at the end of its life. It may contain hazardous substances, so it must be separated from other waste types and recycled responsibly to promote sustainable reuse of materials.
