Instructions for use
Upright refrigerator-freezer

Questions and Answers

Overview

This document is an instruction manual for an upright refrigerator-freezer, designed for household use. The appliance consists of two main parts: an upper refrigerator compartment and a lower upright freezer compartment. The refrigerator is intended for storing fresh food at temperatures above 0°C, while the freezer is used for freezing fresh food and storing frozen food for up to one year, depending on the food type.

Function Description

The refrigerator-freezer is equipped with either an electronic control system or a mechanical regulation system, depending on the model.

Electronic Control (Control Unit 1 & 2):

  • Temperature Setting and On/Off: A knob (A) allows users to set the desired refrigerator temperature, ranging from min to max. The recommended setting is "eco." The appliance is switched on by rotating the knob towards "max" and off by aligning the knob's recess with the "O" sign.
  • Digital Temperature Display (G): For models with electronic control, a digital display shows the actual temperature in the refrigerator, typically ranging from +1°C to +9°C.
  • Fan Boost (C): This function, available on Control Unit 1, reduces condensation on interior walls and temperature differences, especially in higher ambient temperatures. A signal light (D) indicates when the fan boost is active.
  • Super Freeze (E): This feature, available on Control Unit 1, is used for fast freezing of large amounts of food, after initial switch-on, or before cleaning. A signal light (F) indicates its activation. On Control Unit 2, this is activated by rotating the knob (A) to the "*" position. It automatically deactivates after approximately two days.
  • Open Refrigerator Door Alarm: If the refrigerator door remains open for more than one minute, an acoustic alarm sounds, deactivating when the door is closed.

Electronic Control (Control Unit 3 - with fan and No Frost system):

  • Appliance On/Off (E): Pressing and holding this key for 3 seconds switches the refrigerator and freezer on or off. Signal lights (F and J) indicate operation.
  • Freezer Temperature Key (A) & Digital Display (B): Allows adjustment of freezer temperature (-16°C to -24°C) and displays the current setting.
  • Refrigerator Temperature Key (N) & Digital Display (M): Allows adjustment of refrigerator temperature (+1°C to +9°C) and displays the current setting.
  • Super Freeze On/Off Key (C) & Signal Light (D): Activates the super freeze function for fast freezing of large amounts of food.
  • Extra Cooling Power On/Off Key (K) & Signal Light (L): Activates a refrigerator boost for fast cooling of large amounts of food. The fan operates when the door is closed, and the function deactivates automatically after six hours.
  • Acoustic Alarm Acknowledgement and Child Lock On/Off Key (G): Acknowledges alarms and engages/disengages the child lock.
  • Intermittent Acoustic Signal - High Temperature Alarm (H): Activates if the refrigerator/freezer temperature is too high, with the display flashing. Acknowledged by pressing G.
  • Intermittent Acoustic Signal - Power Failure Alarm (H): Activates if temperature rises due to power failure, displaying the highest actual temperature.

Mechanical Regulation (Model without fan & Model with fan):

  • Temperature Setting and On/Off Knob (A): A rotary knob allows temperature adjustment from STOP (off) to 7 (coldest). Position 0 switches the appliance off.
  • Fan On/Off Switch (B) (only with some models): Controls the fan, which distributes cool air and reduces condensation.

Usage Features

  • Food Storage: The appliance is designed for efficient food storage. Food should be properly packed to prevent moisture and odor exchange. Inflammable, volatile, or explosive substances should not be stored. Beverages with high alcohol content should be stored in tightly sealed, vertical bottles.
  • Refrigerator Compartments:
    • Top section: Canned food, bread, wine, cake.
    • Middle section: Dairy products, readymade food, desserts, juices, beer.
    • Bottom section: Meat, meat products, delicatessen.
    • Crisp pan: Fresh fruit, vegetables.
    • Refrigerator door lining: Eggs, butter, cheese (top/middle section); beverages, cans, bottles (bottom section).
  • Freezer Compartments: Used for freezing and storing frozen food.
  • FreshZone Compartment: A dedicated drawer for storing fresh food longer, retaining flavor and nutrients. It slows decay and mass loss. For optimal performance, the drawer should be fully closed. Food sensitive to low temperatures (e.g., pineapple, bananas, potatoes) should not be stored here.
  • Adjustable Glass Shelves: Allows customization of storage space for taller items by removing the front part of the shelf and relocating it.
  • Horizontal Bottle Rack: Stores up to 9 bottles (0.75L) or 13 kg of total mass. It can only be pulled out when empty.
  • Single Drawer: Features a stopper mechanism for easy removal.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Always disconnect the appliance from the mains before cleaning.
    • Clean the exterior with water and liquid detergent; avoid abrasive or aggressive agents on plastic and coated surfaces.
    • Clean coated/aluminum surfaces with a soft cloth and alcohol-based cleaner.
    • Wash the interior with liquid detergent and lukewarm water mixed with a little vinegar.
    • Containers, shelves, and drawers with metallic appearance are not dishwasher safe; clean with dissolved liquid detergent and a soft cloth.
    • The drain groove and outlet at the rear wall must be kept clear of food particles; use a plastic straw to clear blockages.
    • The condenser on the rear wall should be cleaned periodically with a non-metallic brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and kitchen fumes.
    • Clean the drip pan above the compressor, ensuring it is replaced in a horizontal position.
  • Defrosting:
    • Automatic Defrosting (Refrigerator): Ice on the inner back wall defrosts automatically when the compressor stops, and condensed water drains into a pan above the compressor. If excessive ice (3-5mm) forms, switch off and thaw manually.
    • Classical Freezer Defrosting: Clean when frost layer reaches 3-5mm. Activate fast freeze 24 hours prior, then remove food, switch off, and place an absorbent cloth to collect water. Never use powered appliances or defrosting sprays.
    • NO FROST Freezer Defrosting: This model defrosts automatically. Ice build-up indicates abnormal use (e.g., door left open too long); unplug, remove food, clean, and dry the interior before restarting.
  • Bulb Replacement: Disconnect power, remove the cover using a screwdriver, replace the bulb (E14, same wattage), and reattach the cover. Old bulbs should be disposed of as organic waste.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a guide for common faults and remedies, such as the appliance not operating, cooling system stoppages, excessive ice formation, water dripping, flashing signal lights, and difficult door opening.
  • Noise Level: The appliance's operation produces noise, which may be louder initially. Ensure the appliance is placed firmly on a solid, level base, not touching walls or adjacent units, and that internal accessories are correctly positioned to prevent rattling.
