MAINTENANCE & REPAIRPAGE E − 12
proper installation of the wear ring, gaskets and
shims.
Final Pump Assembly
Install the suction and discharge lines and open all
valves. Make certain that all piping connections are
tight, properly supported and secure.
Check the torque on the nuts securing the
suction and discharge manifolds to the
pump casing before putting the pump into
service. If the nuts are plated, torque the
nuts to 15.3 ft. lbs. If the nuts are not plated,
torque them to 17.0 ft. lbs.
Be sure the pump and engine shafts are concen-
tric and the pump and engine are securely
mounted to the base.
Be sure the intermediate has been properly lubri-
cated, see LUBRICATION.
Refer to OPERATION, Section C, and start the
pump.
LUBRICATION
Seal Assembly
The seal assembly is lubricated by the liquid being
pumped. No additional lubrication is required.
Bearings
The intermediate was fully lubricated when
shipped from the factory. Check the oil level regu-
larly through the sight gauge (41) and maintain it at
the middle of the gauge. When lubrication is re-
quired, add SAE No. 30 non-detergent oil through
the hole for the air vent (16). Do not over-lubricate.
Over-lubrication can cause the bearings to over-
heat, resulting in premature bearing failure.
Under normal conditions, drain the intermediate
once each year and refill with approximately 3
ounces of clean oil or to the middle of the sight
gauge. Change the oil more frequently if the pump
is operated continuously or installed in an environ-
ment with rapid temperature change.
Monitor the condition of the bearing lubri-
cant regularly for evidence of rust or mois-
ture condensation. This is especially im-
portant in areas where variable hot and
cold temperatures are common.
For cold weather operation, consult the factory or a
lubricant supplier for the recommended grade of
oil.
Engine
Consult the literature supplied with the engine, or
contact your local engine representative.
