Overview

The GreenBrook Electrical Dual Tariff Boost Timer (T109) is a device designed to control the use of cheap rate electricity, primarily for heating water with immersion heaters during off-peak hours. It is suitable for fixed wiring installations and must be installed according to current IET wiring regulations. If in doubt, a qualified electrician should be consulted.

Function Description:

The timer allows users to schedule when their immersion heaters operate, taking advantage of dual tariff electricity rates. It features a clock with tappets for setting "TIMED ON" periods, an "ON/OFF" switch, and a "BOOST" button for temporary heating outside of scheduled times.

The "TIMED ON" indicator glows when the scheduled "TIMED ON" output is active, meaning the heater is receiving power. The "BOOST ACTIVATOR" indicator glows when the "BOOST SWITCH" is used, indicating that the boost function is active.

The "ON/OFF" switch has two main positions:

  • 'OFF POSITION': In this setting, the scheduled "TIMED ON" and "BOOST" time periods are not activated. The clock continues to run, but the heater remains disconnected from the power supply.
  • 'ON POSITION': In this setting, both the scheduled "TIMED ON" and "BOOST" time periods are activated. Water will be heated during the "TIMED ON" periods, and the boost function can be used as needed.

The "BOOST" button provides extra hot water during "PEAK" time. Users can select a boost duration, adjustable between 15 and 120 minutes. Pressing the "BOOST BUTTON" once activates the boost function. To interrupt the boost function before the selected time is completed, press the "BOOST BUTTON" again.

To set the "TIMED ON" period, users move the tappets on the dial to the outer position. The minimum switching time for a "TIMED ON" period is 15 minutes.

The timer supports various wiring configurations for immersion heaters:

  • Two separate immersion heaters (Dia.6)
  • Single immersion heaters (Dia.7)
  • Dual immersion heaters (Dia.8)

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Voltage: 230V, AC 50Hz
  • Max Current: 16A resistive, 2A inductive
  • Ambient Temp: -10°C to +55°C
  • Rating: 16A for immersion heaters up to 3.5Kw
  • Boost: Adjustable between 15 and 120 minutes
  • Fitting: Surface mounted
  • Dimensions: 86H x 155W x 55D (mm)
  • Protection Category: IP20
  • Conforms To: EN 60730-1 & EN 60730-2-7
  • Cable Cross Sections:
    • 3 x 2.5mm² (2X) output (Dia.1)

Usage Features:

  • Setting the Time of Day: Turn the dial clockwise until the correct time of day aligns with the time set marker on the 24-hour clock face.
  • Wiring: The device supports rear and both-sides wire entry. It is designed for fixed wiring only.
  • Cable Connections: Main cable connections are shown in Dia.5, with terminals 1 to 5 identified. Flexible cable outlets for immersion heaters can be selected by removing the appropriate slot with pliers. Cables are secured using the attached cable clamp.
  • Assembly: The timer assembles to the back plate by aligning location pins with cut-outs on the clock body, then locking with a fixing screw.
  • Mounting: The unit can be surface mounted, with single or twin box fixing points available on the back plate.

Maintenance Features:

  • See-Through Cover: The see-through cover can be removed using a screwdriver for access to the dial. To remove, align the bar on the edge of the cover with the groove at the lower end of the dial in the housing, then apply a screwdriver between the groove and cover.

  • Guarantee: The GreenBrook Dual Tariff Boost Timer is guaranteed for 1 year from the date of purchase, in addition to statutory rights.

Important Safety and Installation Notes:

  • The timer must not be mounted on a flammable surface.
  • Ensure the timer does not come into contact with combustible materials like towels or bedding.
  • A minimum 300mm air space must be allowed around the timer.
  • The timer should NOT be fitted onto a conductive surface (e.g., metal).
  • Before installation, the mains supply must be disconnected.
  • The timer is suitable for fixed wiring only.
  • The instructions emphasize the importance of consulting a qualified electrician if there is any doubt regarding installation according to IET wiring regulations.
