Overview

The Growatt ShineWiFi-X2 is a wireless communication module designed to facilitate the configuration and monitoring of Growatt inverters. It enables users to connect their inverter to a local network and the Growatt server, allowing for remote monitoring and management via the ShinePhone APP.

Function Description

The ShineWiFi-X2 module serves as a bridge between the Growatt inverter and the internet. Once connected, it transmits data from the inverter to the Growatt server, which can then be accessed and visualized through the ShinePhone APP on a smartphone or tablet. This allows users to monitor their plant's performance, view energy generation data, and manage their system remotely.

The module supports two primary configuration modes:

  1. Standard Mode: This mode involves connecting the smartphone to the local router and then configuring the ShineWiFi-X2 module to connect to the same router.
  2. Bluetooth Mode: This mode allows for direct configuration of the ShineWiFi-X2 module via Bluetooth from a smartphone, which is particularly useful for initial setup or troubleshooting without requiring a Wi-Fi connection for the phone.

Key functionalities include:

  • Data Transmission: Collects operational data from the inverter and sends it to the Growatt server.
  • Remote Monitoring: Provides real-time and historical data access through the ShinePhone APP.
  • System Management: Allows for basic management functions like checking datalogger status, editing plant information, and potentially firmware upgrades.
  • Status Indication: Features LED indicators to display the current operational status and connection health of the module.

Important Technical Specifications

While specific numerical technical specifications like operating voltage or power consumption are not explicitly detailed in the provided document, the following can be inferred:

  • Wireless Connectivity: Supports 2.4 GHz band Wi-Fi signals. It does not support 5GHz Wi-Fi bands.
  • Interface: Connects to the inverter via a USB port.
  • Communication Protocols: Utilizes Wi-Fi for communication with the router and server, and Bluetooth for local configuration.
  • APP Compatibility: Compatible with the ShinePhone APP, available on Android and iOS platforms.
  • Network Requirements: Requires a stable internet connection via a local router. The router name and password must consist of English letters, numbers, and specific punctuation marks (.,?!:@;+=#/()_-`^*&..$<>[]{};). Spaces and certain other special characters ("....€'%\") are not supported. Encrypted wireless networks are recommended for security.
  • Server Connection: Communicates with the Growatt server for data storage and remote access.

Usage Features

The ShineWiFi-X2 is designed for user-friendly setup and operation:

  • Easy Installation: Plugs into the inverter's USB port.
  • Guided Configuration: The ShinePhone APP provides a step-by-step guide for registration, adding a plant, adding the datalogger, and network configuration.
  • Multiple Configuration Modes: Offers both Standard (Wi-Fi based) and Bluetooth modes for network setup, catering to different user preferences and scenarios.
  • LED Status Indicators: Clear visual feedback on the module's status:
    • LED off: Not connected well with the inverter USB port.
    • Red LED flashes: Communication between ShineWiFi-X2 and inverter is OK.
    • Green LED flashes: Communication between ShineWiFi-X2, inverter, and router is OK.
    • Blue LED flashes: Communication between ShineWiFi-X2, inverter, router, and server is OK.
    • Red LED always ON: ShineWiFi-X2 module error.
    • Green LED always ON: ShineWiFi-X2 can't connect to the home router.
    • Blue LED always ON: ShineWiFi-X2 module is in Bluetooth Mode.
  • ShinePhone APP: Centralized platform for monitoring, management, and configuration.
  • Datalogger Management: Within the APP, users can view a list of dataloggers, edit their details, configure settings, or delete them.
  • Firmware Upgrade: The system can detect if a datalogger firmware upgrade is needed and guide the user through the process.

Maintenance Features

The device incorporates several features to assist with troubleshooting and maintenance:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a detailed troubleshooting section based on LED status indications, providing solutions for common issues like connection problems, module errors, and router connectivity.
  • Reset Functionality: The datalogger can be reset by pressing and holding its button for 6 seconds until a white light appears. This restores factory settings and is useful for reconfiguring the device, especially after router changes or password updates.
  • Bluetooth Mode for Debugging: The Bluetooth Mode is explicitly mentioned as a "debugging mode" for non-professional users, suggesting its utility for diagnostics and direct configuration when standard Wi-Fi connection is problematic.
  • Automatic Firmware Upgrade: The system can automatically detect and initiate firmware upgrades for the datalogger, ensuring the device runs with the latest software and features.
  • Support Contact: In cases where issues cannot be resolved through troubleshooting, users are advised to contact Growatt support.
  • Router Compatibility Check: The manual highlights the importance of checking router settings, such as the 2.4 GHz band requirement and supported characters for Wi-Fi names and passwords, to prevent connectivity issues.
