Do you have a question about the Grundfos HWR-D and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Grundfos Push-button HWR-D is a wireless push-button designed for use with a pump system, likely for hot water recirculation. It functions as an activation device for the pump, allowing users to initiate its operation.

Function Description:

The Push-button HWR-D is an installation and operating instruction manual for a push-button device designed to control a pump, specifically for hot water recirculation (HWR-D). The device is a wireless push-button that pairs with a compatible pump to activate it. It uses AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries for power. The push-button features an LED indicator that communicates its status, including pairing readiness, successful pairing, pairing failure, low battery, and normal operation.

Installation and Pairing:

Installation involves removing a mounting bracket from the back of the push-button and removing a pull-tab from the AAA batteries to power it on. Pairing with the pump requires holding a connect button on the pump for 2 seconds until a blue connect symbol flashes. The push-button is then activated for 2 seconds, causing its blue connect symbol to flash. Successful pairing is indicated by the blue connect symbol remaining on continuously for 5 seconds on both devices. If pairing fails, the connect symbol flashes red for 5 seconds on both devices, and the procedure should be retried. Operation can be verified by activating the push-button for less than 2 seconds, checking for a green connect symbol on the pump, and confirming the pump turns on. The mounting bracket is fastened to a surface or wall using included double-sided tape, away from water droplets or splashes, and the push-button is then snapped onto the bracket. Multiple push-buttons can be used with the system by repeating the installation procedure.

Control Functions (LED Indicators):

  • LED, flashing blue: Indicates the push-button is ready for pairing with the pump.
  • LED, blue (5 seconds continuously): Indicates successful pairing between the push-button and the pump.
  • LED, flashing red (5 seconds during installation): Indicates that pairing between the push-button and the pump has failed. A restart of the installation procedure is recommended.
  • LED, flashing red (2 seconds during normal operation): Indicates that the battery level in the push-button is at a critical level when the push-button is activated. Battery replacement is recommended.
  • LED, lights green (2 seconds during normal operation): Indicates that the push-button is operating normally.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries (two required).
  • Maximum Ambient Temperature: 104 °F (40 °C), in non-condensing environments.
  • Minimum Ambient Temperature: 34 °F (1 °C), in non-condensing environments.
  • Wireless Communication: Complies with FCC Part 15 rules for digital devices.
  • FCC ID: Not explicitly stated in the provided text, but compliance with FCC sections 15.19 (a) 3, 15.21, and 15.105 (b) is mentioned.
  • Certifications: ETL Listed (CM US Intertek).

Usage Features:

  • Wireless Operation: Provides flexibility in placement within range of the pump.
  • Simple Pairing Process: Designed for straightforward setup with the pump.
  • LED Status Indicators: Offers clear visual feedback on the device's operational status and battery level.
  • Multiple Push-buttons: The system supports the use of more than one push-button for activation.
  • Mounting: Uses double-sided tape for easy and secure attachment to a surface or wall.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The push-button uses two AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries. The manual provides clear instructions for replacing them: remove the push-button from the mounting bracket, remove old batteries, insert new ones, and replace the push-button on the bracket.
  • Cleaning: The push-button can be cleaned by wiping it with a clean, damp cloth.
  • Battery Leakage: In case of battery leakage, the push-button should be replaced.
  • Disposal: The product and its parts must be disposed of in an environmentally sound way, either through public/private waste collection or by contacting a Grundfos representative. End-of-life information is available at www.grundfos.com/product-recycling.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Biological Hazard (Batteries): A severe warning is issued regarding batteries, emphasizing that they should be kept out of reach of children, the elderly, and pets. Ingestion or placement in the nose, mouth, or ears can cause permanent injury, requiring immediate emergency room treatment. In the US, the 24-hour National Battery Ingestion Hotline (800-498-8666) should be consulted for assistance.
    • Corrosive Substance (Batteries): A caution against battery leakage, advising replacement of the push-button if it occurs, to prevent moderate to minor personal injury and property damage.
    • Flammable Material (Batteries): A caution against attempting to recharge non-rechargeable batteries and stresses the importance of disposing of old batteries according to local regulations and recycling them where possible, to prevent moderate to minor personal injury.

Location and Environmental Considerations:

The push-button should not be installed in a shower or under a tap/faucet where it could be exposed to water. It should be mounted at a suitable height, out of reach of small children and pets. The maximum ambient temperature for operation is 104 °F (40 °C) in non-condensing environments.

Regulatory Compliance:

The device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules, meaning it is subject to two conditions: it may not cause harmful interference, and it must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Any unauthorized changes or modifications to the equipment could void the user's authority to operate it. The equipment has been tested and found to comply with limits for a class B digital device, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. It generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If it causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, users are encouraged to try to correct it by reorienting the receiving antenna, increasing separation between equipment and receiver, connecting to a different circuit outlet, or consulting a dealer/technician. The equipment should be installed and operated with the radiator at least 8 inches (20 cm) or more away from a person's body. It also complies with Canadian ISED radiation exposure limits for an uncontrolled environment and meets FCC radio frequency (RF) Exposure guidelines.
