Do you have a question about the Grundig GDKP5474BBSC and is the answer not in the manual?
This document serves as the User Manual for the Grundig Hood, model GDKP5474BBSC, providing essential information for its safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
The Grundig Hood is designed for domestic use to extract cooking fumes, odours, and vapours from the kitchen environment. It features an engine with various speeds to adapt to different cooking conditions; lower speeds are recommended for normal use, while higher speeds are suitable for strong odours and heavy vapour condensation. The hood can operate in different modes, including standard speed levels, an intensive ventilation mode (Booster), and an air cleaning mode for prolonged odour elimination at a low level. Some models also include an automatic mode that adjusts the fan speed based on kitchen air temperature, detecting differences between the hob and ambient temperatures. The hood is equipped with illumination lamps to provide light over the cooking area, and for certain models, these lamps offer adjustable colour shades.
To operate the hood, users select a desired speed level by touching the corresponding key on the control panel. The selected speed level key will illuminate to indicate activation. Speed levels can be changed by touching other speed level keys. If no key is touched, the product will run for a maximum of 6 hours. To turn off the hood, the active speed level key or the 'On-Off/Speed 1' key should be touched again. Touching the 'On-Off/Speed 1' key with any function active except the lamp will cancel that function.
For models B and C, an intensive ventilation mode (Booster) can be activated by pressing the dedicated key. This mode runs for a maximum of 10 minutes, with its key illuminating during this period, after which the hood reverts to Speed 3. If any speed key is touched during intensive ventilation mode, it will return to that speed level.
The hood's lamps are operated by touching the lamp key. For models B and C, touching the lamp key again within the first minute will switch the lamp to a low illumination level; touching it after one minute will turn it off. The illumination lamps operate for a maximum of 12 hours. Models B and C also allow for setting the lamp illumination colour in three different shades by touching and holding the lamp key for more than 2 seconds. The colour shade changes every 2 seconds if the key is continuously touched, and the desired shade is automatically activated upon release. The hood remembers the last set colour shade in case of a power outage.
Automatic mode, available for model C, is activated by touching the designated key. In this mode, the hood's sensor measures the temperature of the air from the hob and in the kitchen, automatically adjusting fan speeds to equalize temperatures. The automatic mode deactivates when the temperatures equalize or if the automatic mode key is touched again to turn it off. If a temperature difference is detected even when the hob is not operating, the hood may start at Speed 2 or 3.
Air cleaning mode, for models B and C, is activated by touching the Speed 1 key for more than 3 seconds. This mode operates at Speed 1 for 10 minutes within each hour, then stops for 50 minutes, repeating this cycle for 24 hours to eliminate odours at a low level. It is automatically cancelled if any key other than the lamp key is touched.
The hood also provides warnings for filter maintenance. An aluminium filter fill warning (flashing Speed 2 key) appears after 100 hours of operation, indicating the need to clean the aluminium filter. This warning is reset by touching the Speed 2 key for more than 3 seconds after cleaning. Similarly, for products with a carbon filter, a carbon filter fill warning (flashing Speed 2 key) appears after 100 hours, requiring replacement of the carbon filter. This warning is reset by touching the Speed 2 button for more than 3 seconds after replacement. The warnings will not appear while the hood is running but will resume flashing once it is turned off.
Regular maintenance and cleaning are crucial for extending the product's service life and preventing problems. Before any maintenance or cleaning, the product must be disconnected from the electrical connection to avoid electric shock. Abrasive detergents, cleaning powders, creams, or sharp objects should not be used, nor should steam cleaning products. The product should be thoroughly cleaned after each use to prevent food residues from burning. General cleaning can be done with dishwashing detergent, warm water, and a soft cloth or sponge, followed by drying with a dry cloth. For stainless or inox surfaces, a soft soapy cloth and liquid (non-scratching) detergent should be used, wiping in one direction. Care must be taken not to damage the sensors located on the backside of the glass cover (for model C) during cleaning.
The aluminium filters, which retain oil particles, should be cleaned once a month under normal usage. This involves removing the filters by pushing the lock forward, lowering the filter slightly, and pulling it forward. The filters can be washed in water with liquid detergent and reinstalled after drying. They can also be washed in a washing machine at a maximum of 70°C. It is normal for aluminium filters to change colour after washing, and this does not necessitate replacement.
For models without a flue, carbon filters are used and should be replaced every 4 months under normal use. Carbon filters should never be washed. To replace them, first remove the aluminium filters, then release the locks of the carbon filter from their slots, remove the pins from the socket, and pull the filter out. The new carbon filter is installed by reversing these steps, ensuring the tabs are inserted into the slot and the locks are pushed upwards, followed by reinstalling the aluminium filters.
In case of a lamp malfunction, the user should contact their local dealer or Customer Service for replacement. The user manual explicitly states not to attempt to repair or replace any component unless clearly specified, and to avoid technical modifications. Installation and repair works must always be performed by the manufacturer, authorised service, or a designated person. Using original spare parts and accessories is recommended.
