This document serves as the user manual for a Grundig Hood, model GDSP2474BBSC, providing essential information for its safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Function Description
The Grundig Hood is an appliance designed to extract cooking fumes, odors, and vapors from the kitchen environment. It features an engine with multiple speed settings, allowing users to adjust the extraction power based on the intensity of cooking. Low speeds are recommended for normal conditions, while higher speeds are suitable for strong odors and heavy vapor condensation. The hood can operate in different modes, including standard speed levels, an intensive ventilation (Booster) mode, and an air cleaning mode. Some models also include an automatic mode that adjusts extraction levels based on kitchen air temperature. The hood is equipped with illumination lamps to provide light over the cooking area, and for certain models, the color shade of these lamps can be adjusted.
Usage Features
The hood's operation is controlled via a control panel, which may vary slightly between models (A, B, and C).
- Speed Control: Users can select different speed levels by touching the corresponding keys on the control panel. The selected speed level key will light up to indicate activation.
- On/Off Function: The hood can be turned on by selecting a speed level and turned off by touching the active speed level key or the dedicated On/Off key (for models B and C).
- Intensive Ventilation (Booster) Mode: Available on models B and C, this mode provides maximum extraction power for a limited time (typically 10 minutes) to quickly clear strong odors and vapors. After this period, the hood automatically reverts to a lower speed setting.
- Automatic Mode: For model C, this feature uses a temperature sensor to detect the temperature of the air from the hob and the ambient kitchen air. It automatically adjusts the hood's operating speed to match these temperatures, switching off when they equalize. This mode can be manually deactivated.
- Air Cleaning Mode: Available on models B and C, this mode operates at a low speed for extended periods (e.g., 10 minutes every hour for 24 hours) to continuously eliminate odors from the house. It can be manually overridden by selecting any other speed or lamp function.
- Lamp Operation: The hood's lamps can be turned on and off by touching the lamp key. For models B and C, touching the lamp key again within the first minute of activation can switch the illumination to a low level.
- Lamp Illumination Color (Models B and C): Users can cycle through three different color shades for the illumination lamps by pressing and holding the lamp key for more than 2 seconds. The selected color shade will be automatically activated. The light color shade can only be changed when the lamp has high light intensity. In case of a power outage, the hood remembers the last set color shade.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the hood's efficiency and longevity, as well as for safety.
- General Cleaning: The product should be cleaned thoroughly after each use to prevent food residues from burning. A soft cloth or sponge with dishwashing detergent and warm water is recommended. Abrasive detergents, cleaning powders, cleaning creams, sharp objects, and steam cleaning products should be avoided. For stainless steel surfaces, a soft soapy cloth and liquid (non-scratching) detergent should be used, wiping in one direction. Care should be taken not to damage the sensors located on the backside of the glass cover (for model C).
- Aluminium Filter Cleaning: The aluminium filters are designed to trap oil particles. They should be cleaned once a month under normal usage. This can be done by removing them, washing them with liquid detergent and water, and then reinstalling them after drying. Alternatively, they can be washed in a washing machine at a maximum of 70°C. It is normal for the filters to change color after washing.
- Aluminium Filter Fill Warning: The hood provides a warning (flashing Speed 2 key light) after every 100 hours of operation, indicating that the aluminium filter needs cleaning. This warning can be reset by touching the Speed 2 key for more than 3 seconds after cleaning the filter. The warning is not cancelled by power cuts or by operating the hood at any speed level; it will reappear once the hood is turned off.
- Carbon Filter Replacement (for ductless usage): If the hood is installed without a flue, carbon filters are used to purify the air. These filters should be replaced every 4 months under normal use and should never be washed. They can be obtained from authorized services. Failure to replace them can pose a fire risk.
- Carbon Filter Fill Warning: Similar to the aluminium filter, a flashing Speed 2 key light after every 100 hours of operation indicates that the carbon filter needs replacement. After replacement, the warning can be reset by touching the Speed 2 button for more than 3 seconds. The warning behavior is similar to the aluminium filter warning regarding power cuts and operation.
- Hood Lamp Replacement: In case of a lamp malfunction, users should contact their local dealer or Customer Service for replacement. It is not recommended to attempt to replace the lamp independently.
