Filling
in
the
blanks
There
are
several
more
things
you
need
to
know
and
this
section
covers
them.
What
to
do
when
you
reach
the
end
of
the
tape
spool.
Your
TK20
is
designed
for
use
with
twin
track
tape.
In
other
words,
recording
takes
place
on
one
half
of
the
tape
only
as
it
runs
past
the
Recording
Head.
This
means
that
when
you
reach
the
end
of
your
first
spool
(over
an
hour’s
continuous
recording
per
1,200
ft.
spool)
you
still
have
the
same
length
left
on
which
to
record.
Changing
over
to
the
other
track
is
very
simple.
Free
both
the
spools
on
their
spindles,
lift
them
up
to
free
the
tape
from
the
sound
channel
and
turn
both
spools
right
over
so
that
the
right-
hand
spool
becomes
the
left-hand
spool.
Fit
onto
spindles.
This
should
mean,
that
once
again
your
full
spool
is
on
the
left
and
your
empty
spool
on
the
right.
Thread
the
tape
through
the
sound
channel
and you
are
ready
to
record
again.
Automatic
Stop.
Each
end
of
the
Grundig
tape
in
your
TK20
is
fitted
with
special
metallised
strips
which
cause
the
driving
motor
to
cut
off
automatically
when
the
metallised
strip
passes
through
the
recording
channel.
When
the
tape
on
your
TK20
has
been
stopped
in
this
way
is
necessary
to
set
the
Selector
Switch
(C)
to
O
in
order
to
switch
the
motor
ON
again.
How
to fast
wind
forwards.
You
have
already
used
the
fast
wind
backwards
and
are
familiar
with
it.
Sometimes,
however,
when
you
want
to
select
a
section
of
previously
recorded
tape
towards
the
end
of
a
spool
you
will
need
to
use
a
forward
fast
wind.
All
you
have
to
do
for
this
is
to
turn
the
Selector
Switch
(C)
via
position
»
and
e
(intermediate
stop)
to
-.
How
to
play
tape
recordings
back
through
your
Radio.
If
you
wish
to
do
this,
connect
a
Grundig
Spare
Lead
from
the
socket
marked
&
in
the
back
of
the
TK20
to
the
P/U
Input
sockets
on
the
back
of
your
Radio
or
Radiogram
and
play
back
in
the
normal
way.
Editing
the
Tape.
If
you
wish
to
keep
only
certain
parts
of
your
recordings
on
the
tape,
any
part of
it
can
be
cut
out;
the
two
ends
of
the
tape
remaining
on
the
spool
can
easily
be
rejoined
with
a
special
adhesive
tape.
The
part
required
should
be
cut
off
with
an
oblique
cut
from
the
main body
of
the
tape
and
stored.
To
UI
stick
the
loose
ends
together,
line
up
the
cut
edges
of
the
tape,
making
sure
that
the
joint
is
straight
and
that
the
tape
does
not
form
a
kink.
Stick
approximately
an
inch
of
the
adhesive
tape
over
the
back
of
the
tape
and
press
well
together.
Afterwards
trim
off
the
excess
adhesive
tape
with
scissors.
Keeping
Recordings.
A
piece
of
recorded
tape
or
a
whole
reel
can
be
stored
indefinitely
with
no
ill
effect
to
the
recording,
but
you
will
be
well
advised
to
store
recorded
tape
carefully,
and
to
identify
it.
You
will
find
that
Grundig
tape
boxes
have
ample
space
on
which
to
mark
the
titles.
How
to
record
a
Telephone
Conversation.
The
Grundig
Telephone
Adaptor
[see
page
15]
makes
it
possible
to
record
both
sides
of
a
telephone
conversation.
The
plug
of
the
Adaptor
fits
into
socket
[fin
the
back
panel
of
the
TK20
and
the
rubber
disc
[slightly
moistened]
is
pressed
on
to
the
telephone
in
the
best
position.
Different
types
of
telephone
each
require
a
different
position;
this
is
how
to
locate
it.
(1)
Plug
the
Adaptor
into
the
socket
[J
and
switch
on
with
the
TK20
so
placed
that
it
is
at
least
44
ft.
from
the
telephone.
(2)
Press
Input
Selector
Button
and
turn
Volume
Control
(B)
to
a
convenient
level.
(3)
Lift
the
telephone
handset
so
that
the
dialling
tone
is
heard
and
move
the
Adaptor
slowly
round
the
base
of
the
instru-
ment
with
the
rubber
disc
just
touching.
The
Magic
Eye
will
flutter
and
the
dialling
tone
will
be
heard
through
the
TK20
speaker.
(4)
When
the
Magic
Eye
registers
its
maximum
deflection
and
the
dialling
tone
is
heard
through
the
speaker
at
its
loudest
you
have found
the
right
position.
Fasten
the
Adaptor
at
this
point.
In
the
case
of
manual
exchanges
the
co-operation
of
a
caller
is
necessary
to
provide
a
continuous
source
of
sound
in
the
absence
of
the
dialling
tone.
Listening
in
Privacy.
Just
connect
the
Grundig
Stethoscope
Earphone
[see
page
15]
to
the
Output
Socket
sy
of
the
TK20.
If
you
find
it
necessary
to
erase
a
tape
or
a
portion
of
a
tape
quickly
without
actually
making
a
further
recording,
then
this
is
what
you
do:—
Put
the
full
recorded
tape
on
the
L.H.
Spindle
(or
ensure
that
the
part
you
wish
to
erase
is
on
the
left
of
the
Sound
Channel)
Remove
all
Input
Plugs.
Set the
Selector
Switch
to
Fast
Wind
Forward
and
depress
any
Input
Selector
Button
(D).
As
long
as
this
button
is
held
depressed,
all
the
tape
which
is
now
passing
through
the
Sound
Channel
at
fast
speed
is
fully
erased.
