Overview

This document describes the Halfords 30L Compressor Coolbox, a versatile appliance designed for mobile use, functioning as either a coolbox or a freezer. It is suitable for various applications, including in-vehicle, camping, caravanning, and general leisure use, but not for permanent installation or industrial conditions.

Function Description

The Halfords 30L Compressor Coolbox is engineered to refrigerate or freeze food products efficiently. It features a fast-acting and efficient compressor cooling system that provides maintenance-free performance. Users can set the exact desired temperature, with a range extending down to -22°C, making it suitable for deep freezing. The coolbox operates quietly and efficiently, ensuring food remains chilled or frozen as required. It is compatible with both 12V and 24V DC power supplies, making it suitable for use in cars and trucks, and can also be connected to an AC power supply via an appropriate adaptor.

Usage Features

The coolbox is designed for ease of use with several practical features. It includes a clear LCD temperature display and a control panel for intuitive operation. To switch the coolbox on, users simply press the "ON/OFF" button once lightly. To switch it off, the "ON/OFF" button must be pressed and held for 5 seconds.

Temperature settings can be adjusted in increments of 1°C or 2°F. To change the temperature display unit between Celsius and Fahrenheit, users press the "set" and "down" buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds. Once a flashing "°C" or "F" appears, the "up" or "down" button can be used to select the desired unit. To set the cooling temperature, the "set" button is touched once, followed by using the "UP +" and "DOWN -" buttons to select the target temperature. The selected temperature will flash briefly before the display reverts to the current temperature.

A key safety feature is the 3-level low voltage battery protection monitor, which prevents excessive discharge of the vehicle's battery when the coolbox is connected to the vehicle's DC supply. If the coolbox is operating while the vehicle engine is off and the ignition is switched off, it will automatically power down if the supply voltage drops below a preset level. It will then restart once the battery has been sufficiently recharged. Users can select from three protection levels (H1, H2, H3) by pressing the "UP" and "DOWN" buttons simultaneously for about five seconds until a flashing "H1," "H2," or "H3" appears. The "UP +" or "DOWN -" buttons then allow selection of the desired level. For maximum battery protection when powered by a vehicle battery, H3 is recommended, while H1 may suffice for supplementary leisure batteries.

The coolbox offers two working modes: HH (normal working mode) and ECO (energy-saving mode). In HH mode, the "on" LED light will be red, indicating normal operation. In ECO mode, the "on" LED light will be green, signifying energy-saving operation. These modes can be selected by touching the "set" button twice, then using the "UP +" and "DOWN -" buttons when "HH" or "ECO" flashes on the screen.

For optimal energy saving, it is advised to choose a well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight, allow warm food to cool before placing it in the coolbox, avoid opening the lid unnecessarily, and defrost the coolbox if ice forms. The coolbox should not be used at unnecessarily low temperatures.

The coolbox is designed to hold a significant capacity, such as 44 standard 330ml cans, 12 x 0.5L bottles, or 6 x 1.5L bottles. It also comes with two removable divider grids for organizing contents and features a hygienic wipe-clean sealed interior.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the coolbox's efficiency and longevity. Before first use, and after purchase, the coolbox should be laid horizontally for at least 6 hours before being switched on. It should also be cleaned inside and out with a damp cloth for hygiene.

Defrosting is necessary when ice or frost forms inside the coolbox or on the vaporiser, as this can reduce cooling efficiency. To defrost, users should remove all contents, switch off the coolbox, leave the lid open, and wipe away the defrosted ice. Hard or pointed tools should never be used to remove ice to avoid damage.

For cleaning, the interior and exterior of the coolbox should be wiped with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution. It is important to ensure that the air inlet and outlet vents are free of dust and dirt to allow heat to dissipate freely and prevent damage. The coolbox should never be cleaned under running water or immersed in water, and abrasive cleaning agents or hard objects should be avoided to prevent damage.

The DC plug includes a fuse for protection. If the fuse needs replacing, the screw on the upper half of the housing must be unscrewed, the upper half carefully raised, the centre contact pin removed, and the defective fuse replaced with a new one of the same type and rating. The plug is then re-assembled in reverse order.

Always disconnect the coolbox from the power supply before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
