Overview

This document provides the owner's manual and safety instructions for the Haulmaster 3,500 lb. Capacity Drop Leg Trailer Jack. It covers essential information for safe assembly, operation, inspection, maintenance, and cleaning of the product.

Function Description

The Haulmaster 3,500 lb. Capacity Drop Leg Trailer Jack is designed to support and lift trailers, smaller motorhomes, or other objects weighing under 3,500 pounds. Its primary function is to facilitate the dismounting and mounting of a trailer from a towing vehicle, as well as to assist in leveling and moving the trailer when unhitched. The jack features a drop leg design, which allows for adjustable height and stability. It is intended for use with a round jack mount (sold separately) that enables the jack to be swiveled and locked in either a horizontal or vertical position. Welding is required to securely attach the jack to the trailer tongue, and this task must be performed by a qualified, certified welder to ensure safety and proper functionality.

Usage Features

The trailer jack offers several features to enhance its usability and safety during operation.

  • Swivel Capability: When used with the Model 47283 Round Jack Mount (sold separately), the jack can be swiveled from a vertical position (for lifting and support) to a horizontal position (for towing). This allows the jack to be stored parallel to the trailer tongue, preventing damage during transit. The Lock Pin (13) is crucial for securing the jack in either the vertical or horizontal position.
  • Handle Operation: The Handle (12) is used to raise or lower the Inner Tube (1) of the jack. Turning the handle counterclockwise lowers the jack, while turning it clockwise raises it. This mechanism allows for precise control when applying or releasing a load.
  • Drop Leg Functionality: The Inner Tube (1) extends or retracts to adjust the height of the trailer. The Lock Pin (13) is used to secure the Inner Tube at various heights within the Outer Tube (6), ensuring stability once the desired height is achieved.
  • Dolly Functionality: In the unhitched mode, the curved base of the Inner Tube (1) allows the trailer to be manually moved a short distance without a towing vehicle. This feature is useful for minor repositioning, though caution is advised on uneven surfaces to prevent damage.
  • Capacity: The jack has a maximum lift capacity of 3,500 pounds. It is critical not to exceed this limit to prevent personal injury and property damage.
  • Mounting: The jack is designed to be welded to the trailer tongue using the Model 47283 Round Jack Mount. This permanent attachment ensures a secure connection between the jack and the trailer.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the Haulmaster Drop Leg Trailer Jack.

  • Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, a thorough inspection of the jack is required. This includes checking for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, and any signs of cracked, bent, or broken components. The Round Jack Mount welds should also be regularly inspected to ensure they remain solid. Any abnormal noise or vibration should be addressed immediately, and damaged equipment must not be used.
  • Corrosion Prevention: The entire unit, especially the Round Jack Mount, should be regularly inspected for corrosion, particularly if exposed to salt water or harsh weather conditions. If corrosion develops, painting the exterior parts of the jack can help arrest and prevent further damage.
  • Lubrication: All moving parts of the jack should be kept lightly lubricated to prevent corrosion and ensure smooth operation. If the jack has been used in salt water, it should be thoroughly rinsed with fresh water and then lubricated with a premium quality, lightweight oil.
  • Load Release Before Maintenance: It is crucial to always release any load from the jack before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Professional Repair: In the event of damage or malfunction, the manual emphasizes that repairs and parts replacements should only be undertaken by certified and licensed technicians using identical replacement parts. This ensures that the safety and integrity of the tool are maintained.

The manual also stresses the importance of maintaining a safe working environment, keeping the work area clean and well-lit, and using personal protective equipment, especially eye protection, during operation and maintenance. It warns against using the jack on soft ground surfaces and highlights the necessity of using wheel chocks to prevent the trailer from rolling away when unhitched.
