Usage Features

The hedge trimmer is designed for ease of use and adaptability.

  • Assembly: The device can be assembled with or without a middle tubular shaft, providing flexibility in length. The front handle can be adjusted forward or backward for proper positioning. All connections are secured with rotary knobs and stop pins, ensuring a stable setup. It is crucial to only tighten the rotary knob by hand to avoid damaging the tubular shaft.
  • Operation: Before operation, users must ensure the equipment is functional, the hand guard is in place, and wear suitable clothing, work gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, respiratory protection, a safety helmet, and protective clothing. The On/Off switch and safety switch must not be held closed and should switch off the motor when released. The device connects to mains voltage, and to switch it on, the safety switch must be pushed forward and simultaneously pressed with the on/off switch. The equipment switches off when the on/off switch is released.
  • Swiveling Blade Beam: The safety blade beam can be swiveled out and adjusted to 12 different stop stages (45°/90° to the right or left) by unlocking the safety lever and pressing the lock lever. This feature allows for versatile cutting angles.
  • Shoulder Strap: A shoulder strap can be attached to the tubular shank, with its length adjustable to position the spring clip at hip height, aiding in holding the hedge trimmer.
  • Cutting Techniques:
    • General: The double-sided cutter bar allows for cutting in both directions. For vertical cutting, move the trimmer uniformly forward or up and down in an arc. For horizontal cutting, use a sickle-shaped movement towards the hedge edge to allow cut branches to fall. Tensioned guiding cords are recommended for achieving long, straight lines.
    • Shaped Hedges: It is recommended to cut hedges in a trapezoidal shape to prevent stripping of lower branches and promote dense growth. Cut the sides first, moving from bottom to top, then trim the top edge to the desired flat, roof, or rounded shape. Young plants should be trimmed to shape, reducing new shoots by half while keeping the main growth undamaged until the desired height is reached.
    • Free-Growing Hedges: Regular maintenance is required to prevent them from becoming too high, even if not shaped.
  • Safety during Operation: Always hold the equipment firmly with both hands (one on the rear handle, one on the front handle). Ensure the power cable is kept away from the cutting area and never laid over the hedge. In case of blockages by solid objects, switch off the equipment, pull out the power plug, and then remove the object. Avoid overstraining the equipment. If the cable is damaged, twisted, or cut, immediately pull out the power plug.
  • Putting Down the Device: Place the device on the ground with the motor housing first, ensuring the safety cutter bar is placed without pressure.

Maintenance Features

Regular and proper maintenance is crucial for safe use and prolonging the product's life.

  • General Maintenance:
    • Always switch off the product, disconnect it from the power supply, and allow it to cool down before any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning.
    • Inspect the product for worn or damaged parts before each use. Do not operate if broken or worn parts are found.
    • Lubricate the internal surfaces of the blades with gear grease after each use.
  • Cleaning:
    • Clean the product with a damp cloth and pH-neutral soap. Use a brush for hard-to-reach areas.
    • Clean air vents with a cloth and brush after every use.
    • Remove stubborn dirt with high-pressure air (max. 3 bar).
    • Important: Do not use chemical, alkaline, abrasive, or aggressive detergents or disinfectants, as they may harm the surfaces.
  • Blade Cleaning:
    • Wear safety gloves when working on or near the blades.
    • Keep blades clean and free of debris.
    • Apply a small amount of suitable lubricant (e.g., gear grease) to the cutting device to maintain good cutting performance.
    • Use original spare parts when replacing blades.
  • Storage:
    • Store the product and accessories in a dry, frost-free place, inaccessible to children.
    • The ideal storage temperature is between 10°C and 30°C.
  • Transportation:
    • Switch off and disconnect from the power supply before transporting.
    • Protect the product from scratching and secure it to prevent impact damage.
    • After use, fold the cutting blade to align with the shaft before storing.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like the device not starting, interruptions during operation, or hot blades, along with possible causes and remedies. For persistent problems, users are advised to contact customer support and avoid self-repair to prevent voiding the warranty or causing injury.

Safety and Environmental Information

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear eye protection, hearing protection, respiratory protection, a safety helmet, and protective clothing. Non-skid safety shoes and hard hats are also recommended.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use if operating outdoors. The product should be supplied via a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA.
  • Vibration Exposure: Prolonged use can lead to hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). To reduce this risk, wear protective gloves, keep hands warm, take regular breaks, and plan work schedules to spread high-vibration tool use. Seek medical advice if symptoms like tingling, numbness, loss of strength, or fingers going white are experienced.
  • Electromagnetic Fields: The product produces an electromagnetic field during operation, which may interfere with active or passive medical implants. Individuals with such implants should consult their doctor and implant manufacturer before use.
  • WEEE Symbol: Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste but recycled where facilities exist. Users should check with their local authority or store for recycling advice, in accordance with DIRECTIVE 2012/19/EU.
