Why won't my Hayter M10/30 engine turn over or start?
    • J
      Jason HortonAug 13, 2025
Your Hayter Lawn Mower engine might not turn over or start due to several reasons: * The brake pedal might not be depressed fully. If so, fully depress the brake pedal. * The PTO (electric clutch) switch might be in the ON position. Place it in the OFF position. * The cruise control might be engaged. Move the knob to the NEUTRAL/OFF position. * It could be out of fuel. If the engine is hot, allow it to cool, then refill the fuel tank. * The engine might be flooded. Disengage the choke. Other potential causes that require professional assistance include a blown fuse, battery terminal issues, a discharged or dead battery, loose or broken wiring, a faulty solenoid or starter motor, a faulty safety interlock switch, water in the fuel, or old/stale gas.

If your Hayter Lawn Mower engine runs but the tractor won't drive, the ground speed control pedals might not be depressed; depress them. Also, check that the transmission release lever is in the DRIVE position, not the PUSH position. Other potential issues that require assistance from an authorized dealer include a broken mower drive belt or a broken/slipping traction drive belt. Finally, ensure the parking brake is disengaged.
