Overview

This document provides installation instructions for the GLASS-32LINEAR, GLASS-36LINEAR, and GLASS-42LINEAR series of fireplaces manufactured by Hearth & Home Technologies. These models include: COSMO32-IFT, COSMO42-IFT, RAVE3012-IFT, RAVE4013-IFT, JADE32IN, JADE42IN, JADE42IL, COSMO32-IFT-B, COSMO36-IFT-B, COSMO42-IFT-B, RAVE32-IFT-B, RAVE36-IFT-B, RAVE42-IFT-B, JADE32IN-B, JADE42IN-B, JADE42IL-B, DVLINEAR36, SLR-X-AU, and B41L-AU.

Function Description:

These devices are fireplaces designed to provide heat and ambiance. They are equipped with glass refractory panels that enhance the aesthetic appeal of the firebox. The installation instructions primarily focus on the correct placement and securing of these glass refractory panels within the firebox. A key safety feature is the integral barrier provided to reduce the risk of burns from the hot viewing glass. This barrier must be installed and should not be removed during operation to protect children and other at-risk individuals. The manual emphasizes that if the barrier is missing or if assistance is needed for proper installation, the dealer or Hearth & Home Technologies should be contacted.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual covers three main sizes: 32-inch, 36-inch, and 42-inch models, which correspond to the GLASS-32LINEAR, GLASS-36LINEAR, and GLASS-42LINEAR series, respectively. The installation process involves securing various glass panels (rear, left, and right) within the firebox using self-tapping screws and retaining brackets. Specifically, the GLASS-36LINEAR model has an additional back glass retaining bracket that needs to be installed. The design incorporates bottom glass tabs that are bent upwards to help position the glass panels.

Usage Features:

The primary usage feature highlighted in the manual is the aesthetic enhancement provided by the glass refractory panels. These panels are designed to be installed within the firebox, creating a visually appealing backdrop for the flames. The fireplace is intended for indoor use, and the installation process ensures that the glass panels are securely fitted for safe operation. The manual implicitly suggests that these fireplaces are gas-fired, given the mention of "glass refractory" and the general context of modern fireplace design.

Maintenance Features:

While the manual does not explicitly detail ongoing maintenance, it provides crucial information for initial setup and potential re-installation of components. The installation process itself can be considered a form of initial maintenance or assembly. Key maintenance-related aspects include:

  • Refractory Panel Handling: Users are warned to "Handle refractory panels with care. Refractory may chip or crack if dropped or impacted." This indicates that the refractory panels are delicate and require careful handling to prevent damage, which would necessitate replacement.
  • Glass Assembly Removal/Reinstallation: Step 1 of the installation process instructs users to "Remove decorative front and glass assembly. Refer to appliance installation manual for glass removal and replacement instructions." This implies that the glass assembly is designed to be removable for maintenance, cleaning, or replacement of components within the firebox. Step 7 instructs to "Reinstall glass assembly and decorative front," completing the cycle.
  • Safety Barrier: The integral barrier is a critical safety feature that also requires attention. The manual states, "DO NOT operate the appliance with the barrier removed," underscoring its importance for user safety and implicitly suggesting that it should be inspected periodically to ensure it is properly installed and undamaged.
  • Tools Required: The installation requires common tools such as a screw gun equipped with a 1/4 inch socket or wrench, and a standard flathead screwdriver. This suggests that basic maintenance or component replacement can be performed with readily available tools.
  • Component List: The manual lists kit components including Left Refractory Panel, Right Refractory Panel, Back Refractory Panel, Side Glass Retaining Brackets with Screws, and Back Glass Retaining Bracket with Screws (for 36-inch models only). This list is useful for identifying parts that might need replacement in the future.

Safety Information:

The manual includes several critical safety warnings:

  • Risk of Cuts or Abrasions: "Wear protective gloves and safety glasses during installation. Sheet metal edges are sharp."
  • Hot Glass Warning: A prominent "DANGER" sign warns, "HOT GLASS WILL CAUSE BURNS. DO NOT TOUCH GLASS UNTIL COOLED. NEVER ALLOW CHILDREN TO TOUCH GLASS." This is a crucial operational safety warning.
  • Integral Barrier: The appliance is supplied with an integral barrier to prevent direct contact with the hot viewing glass. It must be installed for the protection of children and other at-risk individuals. Operating the appliance without the barrier is strictly prohibited.
  • Burns During Installation: "CAUTION! Risk of Burns! The fireplace should be turned off and cooled before glass refractory is installed." This emphasizes the importance of allowing the unit to cool down before performing any installation or maintenance work.

The document serves as a comprehensive guide for the initial setup of the glass refractory panels, ensuring both the aesthetic appeal and safe operation of the fireplace models listed. It highlights the importance of careful handling of components and adherence to safety guidelines during installation and use.
