Why won't the pilot light stay lit on my HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • E
      Eric AlvarezAug 16, 2025
If the pilot light on your HearthStone Gas Heater won't stay lit even after following the lighting instructions, the issue could stem from several causes. First, check that the gas pressure isn't too high or low for the type of gas you're using. Next, inspect the connections and measure the voltage between the valve body and the solder connection on the rear of the valve (where the blue wire connects); it should be at least 7 mV. Also, ensure that the thermocouple connection at the gas valve is tight. Finally, the pilot itself might be dirty or plugged, requiring you to clean or replace the pilot assembly.

How to fix a pilot light that won't light on a HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • W
      Walter TranAug 19, 2025
If the pilot on your HearthStone Gas Heater won't light, start by checking the inlet gas pressure. Ensure there's sufficient gas pressure and that the gas line isn't dirty, kinked, or filled with air. If using the piezo sparker doesn't work, the pilot orifice might be plugged, requiring you to clean or replace the pilot assembly. Also, inspect the electrode gap and location; it should be a 1/8" gap in the flame area. Check the connection between the ignitor and electrode, and replace the ignitor if there's no spark. If the heater has been sitting unused, the pilot assembly may be dirty, requiring cleaning or replacement.

Why does my HearthStone Gas Heater pilot and burner go out after warming up?
    • S
      Sarah KeithAug 25, 2025
If the pilot and burner of your HearthStone Gas Heater light but then go out after warming up, it could be due to an inconsistent or insufficient flame on the thermopile. Try adjusting the pilot flame size to ensure it's aimed directly at the thermopile. Another potential cause is insufficient gas pressure. Check the line pressure to ensure it's correct for the gas being used. If you're using propane, check for water condensation at the regulator.

How to stop frequent pilot light outages on my HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • J
      Jacob WrightAug 27, 2025
If you're experiencing frequent pilot outages with your HearthStone Gas Heater, it might be because the pilot flame is too low or blowing too high, causing the pilot safety to drop out. To resolve this, clean and adjust the pilot flame to ensure maximum impingement on the thermopile and thermocouple.

Why does my HearthStone Gas Heater have a delayed ignition?
    • C
      cardenasmarilynAug 30, 2025
Delayed ignition in your HearthStone Gas Heater, characterized by a sudden "whoosh" noise as the burner lights, is typically due to a buildup of gas before ignition, which is more common with propane fuel. This can be caused by an incorrect air-to-fuel ratio. Adjust the air shutter for a proper burn. Ensure the primary air is correct by adjusting the air shutter. Also, burner ports may be plugged; open them to allow for proper travel of flames. Finally, improper log placement can interfere with flame travel; reposition the logs to eliminate this interference.

What causes burner flashback in a HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • K
      Kyle CannonSep 2, 2025
Burner flashback in your HearthStone Gas Heater, where the air-gas mixture ignites inside the burner near the orifice, often creating a roaring noise, is usually due to an imbalance of gas flow velocity and burning speed. This can be caused by excessive primary air, so adjust the air shutter for a proper burn. Also, the burner input may be underrated, so check the input rate. If the flashback occurs with the burner valve in the off position, there may be a valve leak, requiring valve replacement. Finally, improper gas pipe size can contribute to this issue, so correct the plumbing.

Why are the flames floating on my HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • R
      Richard HallSep 5, 2025
Floating flames in your HearthStone Gas Heater, characterized by lazy, ill-defined, quiet flames that roll around (sometimes completely off the port) and may have overly yellow tips, indicate potentially dangerous incomplete combustion due to an incorrect air-to-fuel ratio. This can be caused by a lack of combustion air or excessive fuel delivery. Check the appliance input rate and reduce if necessary. Also, an incorrect air intake/exhaust flow system can cause this issue, so correct the air intake/exhaust flow system.

Why are the flames on my HearthStone Gas Heater blue?
    • S
      Stephanie BrooksSep 9, 2025
Blue flames in your HearthStone Gas Heater are normal for the first 20 minutes of operation. After this time, the flames should begin to turn more yellowish. If the blue color persists, adjust the air shutter for a proper burn.

Why is the glass fogging on my HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • M
      Melissa LynchSep 12, 2025
Glass fogging on your HearthStone Gas Heater is a normal result of gas combustion. After the heater warms up, the glass should clear.

What to do if the pilot light is on but the burner won't ignite on my HearthStone Gas Heater?
    • D
      diane84Nov 20, 2025
If the pilot is burning but no gas is reaching the main burner on your HearthStone Gas Heater, and the valve knob, thermostat, and on/off/t'stat switch are all in the "ON" position, there are several potential causes. First, check the thermostat switch and wiring for proper connections; use a jumper wire across the terminals at the thermostat to test it. If the burner comes on, replace the defective thermostat. If that doesn't work, place a jumper across the thermostat wires at the gas valve. If the burner comes on, tighten the connections or replace faulty wires. It's also possible that the thermopile isn't generating enough voltage; check its output using a milli-volt meter (reading should be greater than 325 mV). If the reading is insufficient, replace the pilot assembly. If the meter r...
