Overview

This document describes the engineering mode functionality for Helix HLT2500 and HLT3500 consoles, which allows for viewing and adjusting various operational settings.

Function Description

Engineering mode provides access to advanced settings not available in normal operation. These settings include:

  • Viewing Total Time and Distance: Users can see the cumulative hours, minutes, and seconds of use, as well as the total distance covered in miles or kilometers.
  • Changing Distance Units: The console can be configured to display distance in either miles or kilometers.
  • Adjusting Language Settings: The display language can be changed to suit user preference.
  • Configuring Transmission Type: This allows the console to be used with both single-drive (Transmission 1) and double-drive (Transmission 2) products. This is crucial for compatibility across different Helix models, specifically HLT2500, HLT3000, and HLT3500.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Console Compatibility: The engineering mode is available on Helix HLT2500 and HLT3500 consoles. Some HLT3000 consoles may also support these features, particularly if they are newer versions or have had their consoles replaced.
  • Transmission Systems:
    • Transmission 1 (Single-Drive): Used by HLT2500 and most HLT3000 products. These systems have one drive belt.
    • Transmission 2 (Double-Drive): Used by HLT3500 and some HLT3000 products. These systems feature a jackshaft and two drive belts: one connecting to the generator and the other to the big gear pulley.
  • Software Version Display: Upon entering engineering mode, the console displays its software version (e.g., "HELIX VER-13").
  • Build Date Display: A build date (e.g., "FINISH 20151223") is also shown, which can be useful for identifying the console's manufacturing period.
  • Unit of Measure: The console can display "ENGLISH" (miles) or "METRIC" (kilometers) for distance.
  • Time Format: Total time is displayed in "HHHMM.SS" format (e.g., "000257H 02.38" for 257 hours, 2 minutes, 38 seconds).
  • Distance Format: Total distance is displayed with a "DIST" prefix and the unit (e.g., "DIST 00016847 ML" for 16,847 miles).
  • PWM Output: The console displays "PWM OUTPUT 0" in engineering mode, but this setting should not be changed by the user.
  • Battery Status: "OFF BATTERY" is displayed when exiting engineering mode.

Maintenance Features

  • Console Compatibility Note: HLT2500 and HLT3500 consoles manufactured before May 2016 may not offer all the functions described in this document. HLT3000 consoles will only have these functions if they have been updated with a newer console version. This information is important for troubleshooting and determining if a console supports specific features.
  • Transmission Type Configuration: Correctly setting the transmission type (1 or 2) ensures the console accurately reflects the product's resistance and performance, which is crucial for proper operation and user experience. This setting is a key maintenance or setup step when installing a new console or moving it between different Helix models.
  • Battery Removal for Reset: The ability to remove batteries to exit language selection mode provides a simple reset mechanism for specific console states.
