The HENRY SCHEIN COLPOSCOPE II is an optical instrument designed for diagnostic use, providing a three-dimensional view of the object being examined. It is intended for use by properly trained personnel in suitably equipped practice or exam facilities. The system comprises three main components: a stereo microscope head with zoom magnification optics, an LED light source, and a center-post stand and base (models 570-0148 and 570-0149).
Function Description:
The colposcope allows for detailed observation of tissues in 3-D, enabling the viewer to perceive height and depth of field. This is crucial for diagnostic purposes where a clear, magnified, and three-dimensional view is required. The zoom magnification optics allow for variable magnification, providing flexibility for different examination needs. The integrated LED light source ensures bright and consistent illumination of the examination area.

- Safety Compliance: Designed and tested in accordance with EN 61010 Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use.
Usage Features:
- Assembly: The base is preassembled. The center-post stand consists of an upper post with a focusing mount and LED illuminator, and a lower post with an illuminator control box. Assembly involves securing the lower post to the base, inserting the upper post into the lower post, and connecting the fiber optics cable. The colposcope head is then inserted into the focusing mount, secured with locking screws, and eyepieces and objective lens are attached.
- Height Adjustment: The height of the upper post can be adjusted by loosening and tightening a black knob.
- Zoom Head Adjustment: The head can be repositioned by loosening thumbscrews. It can be used as either a colposcope or an upright zoom microscope.
- Magnification and Power Setting: The manual provides a detailed table outlining magnification and field of view for different zoom settings with WF15X and WF20X eyepieces and a 0.3X objective lens. The total magnification is calculated by multiplying eyepiece power, head power (controlled by a knob), and objective lens power.
- Operation:
- Power On/Off: The device is turned on/off via a switch, and light intensity is adjusted by a knob.
- Eyepiece Security: Ensure eyepieces are properly installed in the binocular or trinocular head and the head is secured in the focusing mount.
- Focusing: The colposcope allows for 3-D viewing. To achieve a single, non-overlapping image, interpupillary distance and eyetube diopters must be adjusted.
- Interpupillary Distance Adjustment: Rotate the binocular eyepiece tubes to adjust the distance between 55mm to 75mm until a single image is seen.
- Diopter Adjustment: Rotate zoom knobs to the highest power (4.5x), set diopters on both eyetube tubes to "0", and then use the colposcope's focusing knobs to sharpen the specimen's focus. Then, rotate zoom knobs to the lowest power (0.67x) without touching the focusing knob on the focusing mount. Finally, look through the right eyepiece, rotate the eyetube until the image is precisely in focus, and do the same for the left eyepiece, using its diopter.
- Focusing Tension Adjustment: The tension of the focusing knobs is pre-set but can be readjusted.
- Increase Tension: Hold the left knob with your left hand and turn the right knob clockwise.
- Decrease Tension: Hold the left knob with your left hand and turn the right knob counter-clockwise.
- Safety Precautions:
- Always unplug the power cable before moving the colposcope.
- The instrument is for indoor use only.
- The bulb can be very hot; never touch the lamp/bulb or the inside of the light source and bulb holder before it cools down.
- Do not remove the illumination base cover due to high voltage, except for bulb replacement (always unplug first).
- Servicing must be done by authorized personnel.
- Ensure the colposcope is set to the correct local power supply voltage to avoid damage.
- The main plug must be inserted into a grounded protective earth contact.
- Any interruption of the protective conductor or disconnection of the protective earth terminal can make the colposcope dangerous; intentional interruption is prohibited. If protection is impaired, the colposcope should be made inoperative and secured.
Maintenance Features:
- General Care:
- Avoid airborne contaminants and moisture during operation and storage.
- Protect the instrument with a dust cover when not in use.
- Disconnect the power cord and allow the bulb to cool before replacing it with a new bulb.
- Cleaning:
- Use filtered air and a camel hair brush to remove dust particles from optical surfaces.
- For routine cleaning, use a clean cotton swab and lens cleaner.
- For difficult spots or stains, use a lens cleaning solution designed for coated optics and a clean lint-free cloth or lens tissue.
- Do not touch the lenses when handling eyepieces.
