Overview

This document is an installation manual for Hitachi Multi-Kits, specifically for models E-102SN, E-162SN, E-242SN, and E-302SN. It provides essential information for the proper installation and handling of these kits, which are designed for R410A SET-FREE series outdoor units.

Function Description

The Multi-Kits serve as multiple pipe connecting kits, facilitating the connection of refrigerant piping between outdoor units and indoor units in R410A SET-FREE series air conditioning systems. They include various components such as branch pipes for both gas and liquid lines, insulation for these lines, reducers for gas lines, expanders for liquid lines, and tape for securing insulation. The manual details the correct procedures for piping connection, including specific pipe sizes and installation positions, to ensure optimal system performance and safety.

Important Technical Specifications

Models Covered:

  • E-102SN
  • E-162SN
  • E-242SN
  • E-302SN

Applicable Outdoor Units:

  • R410A SET-FREE series

Piping Connection Sizes (End of Multi-Kits): The manual provides detailed diagrams for each model (E-102SN, E-162SN, E-242SN, E-302SN) illustrating the finished pipe end sizes for both gas and liquid lines. These diagrams show various inner diameters (ID) and outer diameters (OD) at different points of the branch pipes, indicating where cuts should be made to match the connecting pipe sizes.

  • E-102SN:
    • Gas Line: IDs ranging from 15.88mm to 25.4mm, with specific points for 19.05mm and 22.2mm.
    • Liquid Line: IDs ranging from 6.35mm to 12.7mm, with specific points for 9.53mm.
  • E-162SN:
    • Gas Line: IDs ranging from 15.88mm to 28.6mm, with specific points for 19.05mm, 22.2mm, and 25.4mm.
    • Liquid Line: IDs ranging from 6.35mm to 12.7mm, with specific points for 9.53mm.
  • E-242SN:
    • Gas Line: IDs ranging from 15.88mm to 28.6mm, with specific points for 19.05mm, 22.2mm, and 25.4mm.
    • Liquid Line: IDs ranging from 6.35mm to 25.4mm, with specific points for 9.53mm, 12.7mm, 15.88mm, and 19.05mm.
  • E-302SN:
    • Gas Line: IDs ranging from 15.88mm to 38.1mm, with specific points for 19.05mm, 22.2mm, 25.4mm, 28.6mm, and 31.75mm.
    • Liquid Line: IDs ranging from 6.35mm to 25.4mm, with specific points for 9.53mm, 12.7mm, 15.88mm, 19.05mm, and 22.2mm.

Air Tight Test Pressure:

  • The product has an air tight test pressure of 4.15MPa.

Recommended Insulation Thickness:

  • Liquid Piping: 10mm (polyethylene foam)
  • Gas Piping: 15mm to 20mm (polyethylene foam with heat resistance of 100°C)

Piping Size for Liquid Piping (2HP or smaller units, piping length 15m or longer):

  • Apply a piping size of Ø 9.53mm.

Minimum Depth for Brazing (B):

  • A: Outer Diameter (O.D.) <8: B = 6
  • 8 O.D. <12: B = 7
  • 12 O.D. <16: B = 8
  • 16 O.D. <25: B = 10
  • 25 O.D. <35: B = 12
  • 35 O.D. <45: B = 14

Usage Features

Installation Position:

  • Horizontal Installation: Branch pipes must be on the same horizontal plane with an inclination maximum of ±30°. A straight length of at least 0.5m is required after any vertical bend.
  • Vertical Installation: A straight length of at least 0.5m is required after a downward branch, and at least 0.3m after an upward branch.

Piping Connection:

  • Pipe Cutting: Copper pipes must be cut with a pipe cutter, not a saw or grindstone, to prevent dust. The pipes should be blown with nitrogen to remove any internal dust.
  • Brazing: Nitrogen must be blown through the pipes during brazing to prevent oxidation.
  • Insulation: Insulation packed with the Multi-Kit must be attached to each branch using vinyl tape. Field-supplied insulation should also be attached to the piping, ensuring a close fit.
  • Flare Nuts: Flare nuts from the indoor unit should be utilized, and flares should be made after attaching the flare nut to the connecting pipe.

Safety Precautions:

  • Refrigerant Leakage: Detailed checks for refrigerant leakage are crucial. Large leaks can cause breathing difficulties or harmful gases if a fire is present.
  • Foreign Materials: Ensure no foreign materials are inside the parts before fixing work.
  • Pipe Ends: When installing pipes through a wall or leaving them open, secure the ends with a cap or vinyl tape to prevent rain, moisture, and dust intrusion.
  • Stop Valves: Ensure all stop valves are completely closed before installation.

Maintenance Features

The manual primarily focuses on installation and does not detail specific maintenance features for the Multi-Kits themselves. However, it emphasizes proper installation practices that contribute to the long-term reliability and performance of the overall air conditioning system, thereby reducing the need for corrective maintenance.

Key points related to system integrity and longevity:

  • Cleanliness: Using clean copper pipes free of moisture and foreign materials, and blowing pipes with nitrogen to remove dust, prevents system contamination and potential blockages.
  • Proper Insulation: Correctly applied insulation prevents condensation, improves energy efficiency, and protects piping from external damage.
  • Leak Prevention: Thorough checks for refrigerant leakage during installation are critical for maintaining system charge and preventing environmental harm.

Post-Installation Recommendation:

  • The manual recommends retaining the installation manual carefully after the installation work is finished, suggesting it may be needed for future reference or troubleshooting.
