  If your Home Air Conditioner won't start, first ensure it's fully plugged into the outlet. Check your house's fuse or circuit breaker and replace the fuse or reset the breaker if needed. If there was a power failure, the unit will restart automatically, but there's a 3-minute delay to protect the compressor. Also, if the current interrupter device is tripped, press the RESET button on the power cord plug. If the reset button won't stay engaged, stop using the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

Clean the air filter, and allow time for the room to cool down after turning on the air conditioner. Check for open furnace registers and cold air returns. If the cooling coils are frozen, refer to the section addressing “Air Conditioner is freezing up”.
