Function Description

The Saddlebag Mounting Bracket is an accessory designed to securely attach saddlebags to the Honda VT1300CR motorcycle. It provides the necessary support structure for both right and left leather saddlebags, allowing riders to carry luggage. The installation process involves removing several motorcycle components, drilling holes in the rear fender, and then reassembling the parts with the saddlebag stays and associated hardware. The bracket is compatible with different types of saddlebags, including 24-liter studded, 24-liter plain, 18-liter plain, and 18-liter studded versions, which are sold separately. Additionally, the bracket can be integrated with other accessories such as a Backrest With Pad (TALL or LOW) or a Rear Carrier, or both simultaneously.

Usage Features

The saddlebag mounting bracket allows for the secure attachment of leather saddlebags, enhancing the motorcycle's cargo capacity. The installation process is detailed, requiring the removal of the left and right side covers, seat, license light cover, and rear turn signal lights. The rear fender needs to be drilled at marked points using a 6.5 mm drill bit and a 30 mm hole saw. It is crucial to remove any burrs from the edges of the drilled holes.

The bracket is designed to be versatile, accommodating not only saddlebags but also other accessories. For instance, if a Backrest With Pad (TALL or LOW) is to be installed, specific collars (8.5 x 24 mm and 8.5 x 8.5 mm) are used with the flange bolts. Similarly, for a Rear Carrier, different collars (8.5 x 16 mm and 8.5 x 8.5 mm) are specified. The instructions also cover the combined installation of a Backrest With Pad and a Rear Carrier.

Once all components are loosely installed, it is essential to adjust the overall fit before tightening all hardware to the specified torque values from the torque chart. The saddlebags are designed with a flap closure mechanism, as shown in the diagrams, to secure contents.

A helmet holder feature is also described, which utilizes a helmet lock extension cable (P/N 77236-KAZ-780). This cable is passed through the helmet ring and installed on the helmet holder. It is important to use the helmet lock extension cable only when parked and to ensure the helmet does not come into contact with the ground when attached.

Maintenance Features

The document provides specific use and care information for the leather saddlebags to ensure their longevity and appearance:

  • Weight Limit: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 10 lbs (4.5 kg) per saddlebag.
  • Leather Care: The saddlebags are made of high-quality leather and require periodic cleaning and conditioning with high-quality leather care products to protect them from weather exposure.
  • Drying Wet Bags: If the bags become completely wet, they must be dried at room temperature. Avoid using dryers, heaters, or fireplaces, as these can damage the leather. To help the bags retain their shape during drying, stuff them with newspaper. Allow two to three days for complete drying, then apply a high-quality leather conditioner.
  • Riding Precautions: Before riding, confirm that the lid is closed. Do not open or close the lid while riding.
  • Load Distribution: Load luggage evenly between the right and left saddlebags.
  • Water Resistance: The saddlebags are not perfectly watertight, and water may enter during washing or rain.
  • Valuables: Avoid placing valuables or easily breakable items in the saddlebags.
  • Accessory Mounts: Regularly check the accessory mounts and retighten them as necessary to ensure security.
