The Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chest is a robust storage solution designed to protect valuable documents and media from the damaging effects of fire and water. This user guide covers models 1114 and 1118, providing comprehensive instructions for proper use, maintenance, and key management.
Function Description:
The primary function of the Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chest is to provide secure storage and protection against fire and water damage for paper documents and various media. It is engineered with high manufacturing standards to ensure maximum user satisfaction and peace of mind. The chest is equipped with a locking mechanism and a waterproof seal to safeguard contents from external threats.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Fire Protection: Independent testing verifies that the interior temperature remains below 350°F (177°C) for one hour when the outside temperature reaches up to 1700°F (926°C). This ensures the integrity of heat-sensitive items during a fire.
- Water Protection: Independent testing confirms that the interior remains dry when the chest is completely submerged for up to 100 hours. This feature is crucial for protecting contents from water damage due to floods, firefighting efforts, or other water-related incidents.
- Construction: The chest features a durable body and lid, secured by compression latches and a lock assembly. It includes a protective waterproof seal and a hydraulic hinge for smooth operation.

- Proper Storage: For optimal performance, the chest must always be stored flat with the lid on top. It should never be stored on its sides or upside-down.
- Safety Warnings:
- The chest is not intended for storing medications, firearms, ammunition, or combustible items.
- Pearls should not be stored in the chest as they may be damaged at temperatures below 350°F.
- When closing the chest lid, ensure hands and fingers are clear to avoid possible injury.
Maintenance Features:
- Initial Airing: Before initial use, the chest should be opened and aired out for at least 30 minutes. This allows the waterproof seal to decompress and perform as intended.
- Interior Moisture Warning and Prevention:
- For optimum performance and to prevent moisture buildup, Waterproof Fire Chests should be opened and aired out for at least 30 minutes every week.
- It is recommended to occasionally air out the chest for longer periods to balance humidity differences and allow any excess trapped moisture to escape.
- Failure to regularly air out the chest may lead to a musty smell, especially on paperwork. The manufacturer is not responsible for damage or loss of items due to moisture if proper care and preventative maintenance are not followed.
- Proper care and preventative maintenance are the owner's responsibility to ensure continued protection and trouble-free performance.
