Overview

The Honeywell ER200 Perfect Window™ Fresh Air Ventilation System is designed to provide fresh air while recovering a significant portion of the heating or cooling energy from the exhaust air. This system is an energy-efficient solution for controlling indoor air pollution and maintaining comfortable humidity levels in residential and light commercial applications.

Function Description

The ER200 system draws outdoor fresh air into a building and exhausts an equal amount of stale indoor air to the outdoors. At its core is an energy transfer wheel that rotates between two counter-flowing air streams (supply and exhaust). This wheel picks up heat and moisture from the warmer air stream and transfers it to the cooler air stream, effectively recovering up to 85% of the latent and sensible energy. This process eliminates the need for a condensation drain or pan.

The system provides ventilation that helps contractors meet ASHRAE 62-89 standards. It can reduce the air conditioning load by up to 0.4 tons during the cooling season. Remote operation allows for total control from a single convenient location. Select models include an automatic and economical built-in preheat frost control system, enabling operation at outdoor design temperatures as low as -29°F (-34°C). This frost control system prevents ice formation on the energy transfer wheel by preheating the inlet air when outdoor temperatures drop below a setpoint, typically 10°F (-12°C). For high humidity applications or colder climates, a frost control model is recommended.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Efficiency: 75 to 85 percent latent and sensible energy transfer efficiency.
  • Air Flow Capacity: 80 to 250 cfm (40 to 120 L/s).
  • Electrical Ratings:
    • Voltage and Frequency: 120 Vac, 60 Hz or 240 Vac, 60 Hz.
    • Maximum Current: 2.2A (without frost control); 14.7A at 240 Vac (with frost control). A neutral is required for motor operation.
  • Minimum Outdoor Operating Temperature:
    • Without Frost Control (120 Vac): 5°F (-15°C).
    • With Frost Control (240 Vac): -29°F (-34°C).
  • Mounting: Designed for mounting in conditioned spaces such as basements, utility rooms, hallways, closets, or conditioned attic spaces.
  • Weight: Unit Weight: 74 lb (34 kg); Shipping Weight: 98 lb (44 kg).
  • Cabinet: Rugged steel construction.
  • Drain: No drain required, as it is condensation-free.
  • Approvals: Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. listed, Canadian Standards Association certified, Home Ventilating Institute certified.
  • Ducting: Uses 7-inch diameter round duct for all connections. Ducting between the ventilator and outdoors, and in unconditioned spaces, must be insulated and have a continuous air vapor barrier.

Usage Features

  • Variable Fan Speed Control: Allows users to adjust ventilation rates from MAX to MIN, providing flexibility to meet specific needs based on occupancy, air quality, and desired comfort levels.
  • Remote Control: The system can be operated remotely using various controls such as dehumidistats, timers, wall switches, or the Perfect Climate® Comfort Center™ keypad. This enables convenient activation and adjustment of ventilation from a central location.
  • Moisture Control: Continuous operation is recommended for optimum indoor air pollutant reduction and humidity control. The system's energy transfer wheel helps remove moisture from incoming humid air in summer and transfers moisture to incoming dry fresh air in winter, potentially eliminating or reducing the need for a separate humidifier.
  • Frost Control (Selected Models): Automatically preheats incoming air to prevent frost buildup on the energy transfer wheel in cold conditions. A press-to-test button with an indicator light allows for quick verification of the preheater's operation. The preheat setpoint is factory-set to 10°F (-12°C) but can be adjusted by a service technician for specific humidity conditions (e.g., up to 15°F (-9°C) for 50% indoor RH or down to 0°F (-18°C) for 20% indoor RH).
  • Balancing Airflow: The system requires airflow balancing during installation to ensure it delivers the intended airflow and energy performance. This involves using a balancing grid and a pressure measurement device (magnehelic gauge or incline manometer) to adjust dampers until supply and exhaust airflows are equal or meet specific requirements (e.g., for radon control).

Maintenance Features

  • Fresh Air Filter Replacement: The fresh air filter should be replaced at least twice a year. Access to the filter is gained by unscrewing thumbscrews on the filter access panel.
  • Energy Transfer Wheel Cleaning: The energy transfer wheel should be checked for dirt and debris buildup. It can be removed and cleaned thoroughly with household spray cleaner and warm water, using a soft brush to remove stains between the plastic windings. Stained surfaces do not affect energy transfer efficiency.
  • Belt Drive Inspection: If the blower operates but the energy transfer wheel does not rotate, the pulley system and belt should be checked for damage or stretching.
  • Frost Control System Test: The frost control system should be tested annually before the heating season by momentarily pressing the test button.
  • Weather Cap Inspection: Weather caps on the fresh air inlet and exhaust grilles should be checked periodically to ensure they are not clogged with debris such as grass, leaves, or snow.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides detailed troubleshooting procedures, organized by levels, to diagnose and correct electrical and mechanical issues. This systematic approach helps service personnel identify and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Permanently Lubricated Bearings: Both the fan and wheel bearings are permanently lubricated, reducing the need for routine lubrication maintenance.
