Overview

The Hoover SteamVac Deep Cleaner is designed for deep cleaning carpets, rugs, carpeted stairs, and upholstery. It operates by applying a mixture of hot tap water and cleaning solution to carpet fibers, then extracting the dirty solution into a recovery tank. This process helps to lift dirt and stains, leaving carpets and upholstery cleaner and refreshed.

Function Description:

The SteamVac Deep Cleaner functions as a wet extraction cleaning system. It features a clean solution tank that holds the water and detergent mixture, which is dispensed through a solution trigger on the handle. Agitator brushes work to scrub the carpet fibers, loosening embedded dirt. A powerful suction system then draws the dirty solution from the carpet into a separate recovery tank. The device includes an automatic shut-off mechanism that engages when the recovery tank is full, preventing overfilling and ensuring efficient operation. This mechanism is indicated by a noticeable reduction in suction and a higher-pitched motor sound. The deep cleaner is equipped with a cleaning mode indicator that visually confirms whether it is set for floor cleaning or tool use, automatically diverting suction accordingly when the handle position changes.

Usage Features:

Before using the deep cleaner, it is recommended to thoroughly vacuum the area to be cleaned. For upholstery, users should check the cleaning code to ensure the fabric is suitable for wet cleaning. A colorfastness test in a hidden area is also advised to prevent discoloration. For large areas, furniture should be moved, or protective foil/wax paper placed under legs to prevent staining. Pre-treating heavily soiled areas with a Hoover PreCleaner Spray (or a double concentration of detergent) can enhance cleaning results.

To operate the deep cleaner, the clean solution tank is filled with hot tap water and Hoover Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, measured using the tank cap. The recovery tank is designed to collect dirty water and must be emptied when full. The handle release pedal allows the handle to be lowered to an operating position, while the ON/OFF pedal controls power. The brush speed selector offers three settings: "HI" for normal cleaning of carpets and bare floors, "LO" for gentle cleaning, and "OFF" when brushing is not desired (e.g., for picking up liquid spills). A brush indicator visually confirms when the brushes are rotating.

For carpet cleaning, the deep cleaner is pushed slowly forward with the solution trigger pressed (wet stroke), then pulled back slowly (second wet stroke). Subsequent passes are made without pressing the trigger (dry strokes) to extract more moisture and aid in faster drying. Overlapping strokes by one inch helps prevent streaking. It is crucial not to over-saturate the carpet, limiting wet strokes to four per area and always finishing with dry strokes.

The deep cleaner can also be used to pick up small liquid spills (up to 1 gallon or 1/4 inch depth) on carpets, upholstery, or bare floors. For bare floors, the floor nozzle with the bare floor attachment and the brush speed selector set to "OFF" should be used to prevent spreading the spill.

For tool use, the handle is placed in the upright position, which automatically diverts suction to the hose. Tools, such as the stair/upholstery nozzle or utility nozzle, attach to the end of the hose. When cleaning stairs or upholstery, the tool is pressed gently onto the fabric, and the solution trigger is pressed while slowly pulling the nozzle over the surface. Multiple dry strokes are recommended to remove excess moisture.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance. After each use, the recovery tank should be emptied and rinsed with clean water. The recovery tank filter should be cleared of debris and rinsed. The clean solution tank and its cap should also be rinsed and allowed to air dry.

The deep cleaner features removable brushes for easy cleaning. To access them, the clean solution tank and recovery tank are removed, the handle is lowered, and the cleaner is turned over. The brush assembly can then be pulled out by releasing four latches. The brushes can be cleaned under running water. When replacing, the posts on the brush assembly must align with the slots in the cleaner housing, and the square post must align with the square hole, ensuring the assembly snaps firmly into place.

The brush indicator screen may become dirty, affecting its function. To clean it, the deep cleaner must be turned off and unplugged, then the clear cover removed to wipe the screen with a damp cloth before snapping the cover back into position.

For storage, both tanks should be emptied and rinsed. The deep cleaner should be turned on, and the trigger squeezed while pushing and pulling the cleaner several times to expel any remaining solution from the system. The brushes and underside of the cleaner should be allowed to air dry thoroughly before storing on a carpeted or wood surface. The deep cleaner should not be stored with a full solution tank in place.

The motor is factory-lubricated for its lifespan, and users should not add any additional lubricant to motor bearings to prevent damage.
