Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide to the Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher, covering its product description, first-time use, programs, options, loading instructions, daily use, advice, and troubleshooting.

Product Description:

The Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher features a well-organized interior designed for efficient dishwashing. Key components include:

  • Upper Rack: Designed for delicate and light dishes such as glasses, cups, saucers, and low salad bowls. It features foldable flaps with adjustable positions, allowing for optimized arrangement of crockery and secure placement of wine glasses. The upper rack's height can be adjusted to accommodate bulky items in the lower basket or to create more space for taller items. This adjustment is facilitated by a dedicated height adjuster, allowing users to lift or lower the rack without pressing levers.
  • Lower Rack: Suitable for pots, lids, plates, salad bowls, and cutlery. Large plates and lids should ideally be placed at the sides to avoid obstructing the spray arm. The lower rack is equipped with tip-up supports that can be used in a vertical position for plates or a horizontal position for pans and salad bowls.
  • Cutlery Basket: Fitted with top grids for improved cutlery arrangement and designed to be positioned at the front of the lower rack. Knives and sharp utensils should be placed with points facing downwards or horizontally in the upper rack's tip-up compartments.
  • Sliding Tray: Located in the upper rack, this tray is ideal for small crockery and cutlery. It is removable, and users should avoid placing bulky items directly below it for optimal washing performance.
  • Spray Arms: Upper and lower spray arms ensure thorough water distribution.
  • Filter Assembly: Located at the bottom of the dishwasher, it removes food residues from the washing water.
  • Salt Reservoir: Essential for preventing limescale formation on dishes and machine components. It must be refilled when the SALT REFILL indicator light is on.
  • Detergent and Rinse Aid Dispensers: Automatically release the appropriate amount of detergent and rinse aid during the wash cycle.
  • Rating Plate: Contains important product information.
  • Control Panel: Features an On-Off/Reset button, program selection button, salt and rinse aid refill indicator lights, program number and delay time indicator, Tablet (Tab) indicator light, display, Zone Wash 3D indicator lights and button, Delay button, and START/Pause button with indicator light.

Important Technical Specifications:

The dishwasher offers several programs with varying durations, water consumption, and energy consumption:

  • Eco (50°C): Duration 3:10 (h:min), Water 9.5 litres, Energy 0.95 kWh. This is the most efficient program for normally soiled tableware.
  • Auto Intensive (65°C): Duration 2:00-3:10, Water 14.0-17.0 litres, Energy 1.50-1.85 kWh. For heavily soiled dishes and pans.
  • Auto Mixed (55°C): Duration 1:30-2:30, Water 14.5-16.0 litres, Energy 1.15-1.30 kWh. For normally soiled pans and dishes.
  • Auto Fast Wash (50°C): Duration 0:55-1:20, Water 13.0-14.5 litres, Energy 1.15-1.25 kWh. For limited quantities of normally soiled crockery, offering optimal cleaning in shorter time.
  • Rapid 30' (50°C): Duration 0:30, Water 9.0 litres, Energy 0.50 kWh. For half loads of lightly soiled dishes with no dried food residues; no drying phase.
  • Sanitizing (65°C): Duration 1:40, Water 10.0 litres, Energy 1.30 kWh. For normally or heavily soiled crockery with additional antibacterial wash. Can be used for dishwasher maintenance.
  • Soak: Duration 0:12, Water 4.5 litres, Energy 0.01 kWh. For refreshing crockery to be washed later, no detergent needed.

The dishwasher also features a water softening system that automatically reduces water hardness, preventing scale buildup. Regeneration occurs once per 6 Eco cycles with water hardness level set to 3, consuming ~3.5L of water and less than 0.005kWh of energy, adding up to 5 minutes to the cycle.

Usage Features:

  • First-Time Use: After installation, users must remove stoppers and elastic elements from the racks. The salt reservoir needs to be filled with water (first time only) and then with approximately 1 kg of salt. Water hardness must be set according to local water supply information, with 5 levels available. The rinse aid dispenser should be filled (max. 110 ml), and its dosage can be adjusted if drying results are unsatisfactory.
  • Program Selection: Programs are selected via the 'P' button on the control panel.
  • Options:
    • Zone Wash 3D: This option allows washing with water jets focused on either the upper or lower rack, optimizing energy consumption (up to 40% reduction with Mixed cycle) or washing performance (up to 40% increase with Intensive cycle). It is ideal for heavily soiled mixed loads. When using this option, only load the selected rack and adjust detergent amount accordingly.
    • Tablet (Tab): Optimizes program performance for all-in-one detergents (rinse aid, salt, and detergent in one dose). This option should be off if using powder or liquid detergent.
    • ActiveDry: A convection drying system that automatically opens the door during/after the drying phase to ensure exceptional drying performance. The door opens at a temperature safe for kitchen furniture. A special protection foil is included for additional steam protection. ActiveDry functionality can be enabled or disabled via the software menu.
    • Delay: Allows delaying the program start time by 1 to 12 hours. The delay cannot be set once a cycle has started.
  • Daily Use:
    1. Check water connection and ensure the tap is open.
    2. Switch on the dishwasher.
    3. Load the racks, removing food residues beforehand.
    4. Fill the detergent dispenser.
    5. Choose and customize the program.
    6. Start the wash cycle by pressing START/Pause and closing the door within 4 seconds.
    7. At the end of the cycle, indicated by beeps and flashing program number, switch off the appliance and wait a few minutes before unloading.
  • Modifying a Running Program: A program can be changed if it has just begun by switching off, then on, and selecting a new program.
  • Adding Extra Crockery: Crockery can be added during a cycle by opening the door (START/Pause LED blinks), placing items, and closing the door within 4 seconds.
  • Accidental Interruptions: If the door is opened or there is a power cut, the cycle stops. Press START/Pause and close the door within 4 seconds to resume.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Filter Assembly: The filter assembly, consisting of three filters, must be cleaned regularly (at least once a month or every 30 cycles) to prevent clogging and ensure proper water flow. The dishwasher should not be used without filters or if they are loose. Cleaning involves turning the cylindrical filter, removing the cup filter, sliding out the stainless-steel plate filter, removing foreign objects, and inspecting the trap.
  • Cleaning the Spray Arms: Food residues can encrust and block the holes of the spray arms. Users should check and clean them periodically with a small non-metallic brush. The upper spray arm can be removed by turning a plastic locking ring clockwise.
  • Cleaning the Water Inlet Hose: If the water hoses are new or unused for an extended period, let the water run to ensure it is clear of impurities before connecting to prevent blockages and damage.
  • Hygiene: To prevent odors and sediment, run a high-temperature program at least once a month with a teaspoon of detergent and no load to clean the appliance.

Advice and Tips:

  • Loading: Arrange crockery firmly, with openings facing downwards, allowing water to reach all surfaces. Ensure spray arms can rotate freely. Place small items in the cutlery basket. Heavily soiled items should be placed in the lower basket.
  • Unsuitable Crockery: Avoid washing wooden items, delicate decorated glasses, artistic handicraft, antique crockery, synthetic materials not resistant to high temperatures, copper, tin, or items soiled with ash, wax, lubricating grease, or ink. Some glass types may become opaque over time.
  • Damage to Glass and Crockery: Use dishwasher-safe glasses and porcelain, delicate detergent, and remove items promptly after the cycle.
  • Energy Saving: Using a dishwasher consumes less energy and water than hand washing. Maximize efficiency by running full loads. For partial loads, use dedicated wash options. Manual pre-rinsing is not recommended.
