  If your Houghton Air Conditioner isn't cooling, first, ensure that the cooling mode is selected and the plenum display shows the correct indication. Use the remote control to set the desired temperature lower than the current room temperature. Keep in mind that the compressor has a three-minute delay for restarting. Also, ensure all doors, windows, and sunroofs are closed, and consider using curtains or awnings to reduce the heating load.

  If your Houghton Air Conditioner isn't providing heat, verify that the heating mode is selected and the plenum display indicates the correct setting. Adjust the remote control to set the desired temperature higher than the current room temperature. Note that in extremely cold conditions, the unit may require more time to start heating. Also, if the outside temperature is very low, the unit may automatically enter defrost mode, temporarily stopping heating to remove frost and ice from the outside coil. During defrost, the unit will display "dF". Heating will resume automatically once the coil is clear.
