• When a color cartridge needs to be replaced, HP Smart printing technology lets you continue
printing a limited number of pages with the black cartridge, enabling you to finish time-critical
projects with consistent, high-quality results. You can enable this feature through the printer’s
control panel or the Embedded Web Server.
• Convenient access points within the printer and helpful instructions enable any user to easily
replace a print cartridge. And, with HP’s high-capacity, no-shake, all-in-one print cartridges,
you’ll spend less time installing cartridges and more time printing your documents. The print
cartridge, toner, and imaging drum are integrated into one supply, which means that you
refresh the imaging system every time you insert a new cartridge.
• Print a usage page from the printer control panel to view a page count for each size of paper
printed, the number of one-sided (simplexed) or two-sided (duplexed) pages, and the average
percentage of coverage for each color.

Compatible with your business environment
• The HP Color LaserJet 3800 series printer is compatible with other HP LaserJet and Color
LaserJet printers and supports HP PCL6, HP PCL5, and HP postscript level 3 emulation, making
it easy to integrate into your business environment and providing support for legacy print jobs.
• The printer supports a wide range of operating systems including Microsoft Windows 98, Me,
2000, XP, XP (64 bit), Server 2003; Mac OS 9.1, 9.2, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4. Support for Win
2003 Server (64-bit) edition and Win XP Pro x64 edition will be available later in the year. For

• The HP Color LaserJet 3800 may also be connected directly through the on-board USB
Hi-Speed port. The HP Color LaserJet 3800n, 3800dn, and 3800dtn ship with an embedded
print server. There are other wired and wireless options available via the open EIO slot. See
“Appendix C—Accessories and supplies” on page 45 for more information.
