14 Evaluating color laser printers
sRGB color
Standard red-green-blue (sRGB) is a worldwide color standard that HP and Microsoft developed as
a common color language for monitors, input devices (scanners and digital cameras), and output
devices (printers and plotters). It is the default color space used for HP products, Microsoft
operating systems, the World Wide Web, and most office software. The sRGB standard represents
the typical Windows monitor and is the convergence standard for high-definition television.
The latest versions of Adobe PhotoShop®, CorelDRAW, Microsoft Office, and many other
programs use sRGB to communicate color. Because it is the default color space in Microsoft
operating systems, sRGB has been adopted broadly. When programs and devices use sRGB to
exchange color information, typical users experience greatly improved color matching.
Printer emulations
The HP Color LaserJet 3800 series printer provides color consistency with other devices by allowing
you to emulate color printing for past or future HP Color LaserJet products. Simply download
specific printer personalities to the HP Color LaserJet 3800 series printer to get output that is
consistent with other HP Color LaserJet products.
CMYK+ color
CMYK+ color provides color output that is more consistent with original RGB color images, even
after images have been rendered for analog offset press printing. It delivers consistent and
intelligent conversion from analog offset press colors to the richer and more vibrant colors available
with digital printers. Skin tones and grayscale remain unchanged, but colors appear more vivid
without being saturated.
CMYK+ color enables creative professionals to produce impressive portfolio prints and
presentations from CMYK+ print files without manual intervention or clipped colors, using the full
gamut of their printer.
Adobe RGB (1998) color
When printing from Adobe PhotoShop® or other software or devices that use Adobe RGB (1998)
color, the HP Color LaserJet 3800 series printer enables direct Adobe RGB (1998) color printing to
provide increased color fidelity and ensure that printed output meets your expectations. Adobe
RGB (1998) color is a wide color space designed to make the most of CMYK color; it is a better
choice for experienced users when color fidelity is of the utmost importance.
PANTONE

color matching
PANTONE has multiple color matching systems. PANTONE Matching System is very popular and
uses solid inks to generate a wide range of color hues and tints. After product introduction, see
www.hp.com/support/clj3800 for details on how to use PANTONE Matching System with this
printer.
