Getting Started and Initial Setup

Step 1: USB Connection Warning

Load plain white paper into the tray, being careful not to force it too far.

Step 6: Power On Device

Press the On button to power on the device.

Step 7: Open Cartridge Door

Open the print cartridge door and ensure the carriage moves to the center; device must be on.

Step 8: Prepare Cartridges

Remove tape from cartridges, avoid touching contacts, and do not re-tape.

Step 9: Insert Cartridges

Insert tri-color and black cartridges into the correct slots, pushing firmly until they snap into place.

Step 10: Close Cartridge Door

Close the print cartridge door and wait for the alignment page to print automatically.

Step 11: Align Cartridges

Place printed alignment page face down on the scanner glass and close the lid.

Step 12: Complete Alignment

Press the Scan button to complete alignment; wait for the green On light to stop blinking.

Software Installation

Windows: Install Software from CD

Insert the green Windows CD, and double-click setup.exe if the startup screen does not appear.

Mac: Install Software from CD

Insert the Mac CD, double-click the Installer icon, and follow onscreen instructions.

Windows: Connect USB Cable

Once the USB prompt appears, connect the USB cable to the device and computer.

Mac: Connect USB Cable

Connect the USB cable to the device and then to any USB port on the computer.

Windows: Complete Software Installation

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the software installation.

Mac: Complete Setup Assistant

Complete the Setup Assistant screen by following the onscreen instructions.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Windows: USB Prompt Not Appearing

Cancel screens, remove and re-insert the Windows CD if the USB connection prompt doesn't appear.

Windows: Device Setup Failed

Unplug/replug device, check connections, avoid keyboard/non-powered hubs for USB.

Windows: Microsoft Add Hardware Screens

Cancel hardware screens, unplug USB, and re-insert the Windows CD to resolve.
