Check all items in the box, noting that contents may vary and a USB cable may need separate purchase.
Remove tape, packing material, and ensure the inner access door is closed firmly.
Connect the power cord and adapter to the printer and a power outlet.
Open tray, close door, extend tray extension, and set paper-width guide.
Load plain white paper, avoiding forcing it too far into the tray.
Press the On button to power on the printer.
Open the print cartridge door and wait for the carriage to move to the right.
Remove the protective tape from both print cartridges.
Hold the cartridges with the HP label facing upwards.
Insert the tri-color cartridge in the left slot and black in the right, pushing firmly until they snap.
Close the print cartridge door and wait for the alignment page to print.
Place the printed alignment page face down on the scanner glass and close the lid.
Press the Resume button to complete the cartridge alignment process.
Insert the software CD, wait for the startup screen, and follow onscreen instructions.
Connect USB cable, insert software CD, double-click installer, and follow instructions.
When prompted, connect the USB cable to the product and computer.
Complete the Setup Assistant screen on your Mac.
Cancel wizard screens, unplug USB, and reinsert software CD if Add Hardware screens appear.
Unplug/replug product, check connections, ensure USB is directly connected to computer.
