10 Evaluating color laser printers
Evaluation
At HP, we typically test multiple printers in various environmental conditions to evaluate engine
reliability. We run the printers to engine life and test and improve the printer jam rate, misfeed
rate, and supplies’ life.
This kind of extensive, long-term testing is beyond the limits of most companies’ resources;
however, it is possible to estimate their printer’s engine reliability. One option is to compare other
printers’ base warranty (make sure it is at least one-year) and three-year warranty costs. When
comparing the HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer with printers from other manufacturers, consider
the following:
• How easy is it to maintain the printer?
• Does the printer perform consistently under various environmental conditions?
• When connected to a network, does the printer print correctly every time?
• Are there any paper jams or other failures during your evaluation?
• What is the quality of the customer support?
