Serial connector and cable for use only on computers equipped with a 15.6-in display assembly 613313-001
Before removing the serial connector and cable, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see
Battery on page 79).
5. Remove the following components:
a. Bluetooth module (see

b. Mass storage device (see
Mass storage device on page 83)
c. Optical drive (see
Optical drive on page 94)
d. Keyboard (see
Keyboard on page 96)
e. Switch cover (see
Switch cover on page 103)
f. Fan (see
Fan on page 109)
g. Heat sink (see
Heat sink on page 111)
h. Palm rest (see
Palm rest on page 107)
i. Display assembly (see
Display assembly on page 116)
j. Top cover (see
Top cover on page 128)
k. ExpressCard assembly (see

Remove the serial connector and cable:
1. Disconnect the serial connector cable (1) from the system board.
2. Remove the two Hex HM5.0×10.0 screw locks (2) that secure the serial connector to the base
enclosure.
