Turn your PC on

Turn your PC on and wait for the
Windows desktop to appear.
Close any open programs, including
virus-checking programs.
Windows desktop
Make sure you are using the
correct side of the poster.
Windows users: Follow the steps in
order. Do not connect the USB cable until
instructed to do so.
See your box for exact contents and
system requirements.
Do not connect the USB
cable until you see the
screen in Step 2. Do not
connect the USB cable
to a keyboard or non-
powered hub.

Use the bright pink pull-tab to
remove the clear tape from the
print cartridges. Do not touch
the gold-colored contacts or re-
tape the cartridges.
Close the print cartridge
door. A print cartridge
alignment page prints. This
may take up to a minute.
Use this page in step 8.
Repeat steps C and D with the color
print cartridge. Make sure both
cartridges are secure.

Hold the black print cartridge with the HP logo on
top. Slide the cartridge at a slight angle into the
right side of the print carriage. See the instructions
on the print cartridge access door.
Press firmly until the black print cartridge snaps
into place.

Pull the print cartridge access
door down. Wait for the print
carriage to move to the
center.
Place the page face down
at the front left corner.
Close the lid.
Press the Scan button.
After the ON light stops
blinking, alignment is
complete. Discard or recycle
the page.
Look for the screen with the green
checkmark, and then continue. If you
see the screen with the red "X", follow
the instructions in the Readme.

Congratulations! You are
now ready to use the
HP PSC. Double-click the
HP Director icon to get
started.

For best print quality, follow
these steps:

Insert the HP PSC software CD.
If nothing appears on your
computer screen after inserting
the CD, search for setup.exe
on the CD and double-click the
file.
Follow the onscreen instructions.
Install the software first
Attach the front-panel overlay
Load plain white paper
Connect the USB cable and the power cord
Turn on your HP PSC
The On light button turns
green. This may take a
few seconds.
Insert the print cartridges

Finish software setup
Align print cartridges
Insert the print cartridges (continued)

Make sure there are five icons in
the HP Director window.
If not, see the reference guide.

Do not connect the USB cable at this
time. Please wait while the software
installs files. This can take up to 20
minutes on slow PCs. When you see
the screen to the right, continue to
step 3.

Lower the input tray and the print
cartridge access door. Remove the
packaging. Close the print cartridge
access door.
Remove the front-panel overlay from
the barcode backing.
Raise the lid. Align the overlay
with the recessed area on the unit
next to the buttons. Press the overlay
firmly into place.

Step 1: Turn Your PC On

Power On and Prepare Desktop

Turn on your PC and wait for the Windows desktop to appear.

Close Open Programs

Close all running applications, including antivirus software.

Step 2: Install Software First

Insert Software CD

Insert the HP PSC software CD into the computer's drive.

Follow Onscreen Instructions

Follow the software installation prompts displayed on the screen.

Delay USB Connection

Do not connect the USB cable until the software prompts you.

Manual CD Launch

If CD auto-play fails, manually run setup.exe from the CD.

Step 3: Attach Front Panel Overlay

Prepare Printer Access

Lower input tray and cartridge access door, remove packaging, then close access door.

Remove Overlay

Peel the front panel overlay from its backing material.

Position and Attach Overlay

Align the overlay with the recessed area and press firmly into place.

Step 4: Load Plain White Paper

Insert Paper

Load a sheet of plain white paper into the printer's input tray.

Step 5: Connect Cables

Connect USB and Power

Connect the USB cable and power cord as instructed by the software.

USB Connection Warning

Connect USB only when prompted and avoid hubs or keyboards.

Step 6: Turn On HP PSC

Power On Indicator

Turn on the HP PSC; the power light will turn green.

Step 7: Insert Print Cartridges

Prepare Cartridge Access

Open the print cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to center.

Remove Cartridge Tape

Remove tape using the pull-tab, do not touch contacts or re-tape.

Insert Black Cartridge

Slide the black cartridge into the right slot of the carriage until it snaps.

Insert Color Cartridge

Repeat insertion process for the color cartridge, ensuring both are secure.

Alignment Page Generation

Close the door; an alignment page will print for the next step.

Step 8: Align Print Cartridges

Prepare Alignment Scan

Place the alignment page face down in the scanner bed's front left corner.

Initiate Alignment

Close the lid and press the Scan button to start alignment.

Alignment Completion

Alignment is complete when the ON light stops blinking; discard the page.

Step 9: Finish Software Setup

Verify Setup Success

Confirm success via the green checkmark screen or consult Readme for errors.

Step 10: Try the HP PSC

Launch HP Director

You are ready to use the HP PSC; double-click the HP Director icon to begin.
