Remove all tape and cardboard packaging from the printer to prepare it for use.
Identify all included items such as CDs, user guides, cartridges, and cables.
Apply the control panel overlay correctly, ensuring tabs are inserted into slots.
Connect the power cord and adapter to the printer and a power outlet.
Turn on the printer by pressing the power button. Wait for the status light to become solid.
Load plain white paper into the input tray for printing.
Open the printer's access door to reach the print carriage.
Pull the pink tab to remove protective tape from print cartridges.
Insert the tri-color print cartridge into the left slot until it snaps.
Insert the black print cartridge into the right slot until it snaps.
Place alignment page face down and press Start Scan to align cartridges.
Turn on your computer and log in. Close any open programs.
Insert the appropriate HP CD (Windows or Macintosh) and follow onscreen instructions.
Connect the USB cable to the printer and then to a USB port on your computer.
Follow onscreen prompts to complete the software installation and setup.
If USB cable is not detected, re-insert the CD and refer to setup steps.
Cancel the Add Hardware wizard, unplug USB, re-insert CD, and follow setup.
Check overlay attachment, replug device, verify connections, and avoid hubs.
Reload paper correctly and press Cancel/Resume if the Check Paper light flashes.
Re-insert cartridge, close door, and press Cancel/Resume if print cartridge light flashes.
Check other indicator lights and consult the User Guide for 'E' error.
