Overview

This document is an installation manual for the Hunter Postman ceiling fan, providing comprehensive instructions for assembly, installation, and operation. The fan is designed to offer comfort and performance in residential or office settings.

Function Description:

The Hunter Postman ceiling fan is a multi-speed, reversible ceiling fan equipped with a light fixture. It circulates air to provide cooling in downdraft mode (counterclockwise rotation) and to move warm air downward in updraft mode (clockwise rotation), enhancing comfort year-round. The fan's speed and light can be controlled independently via pull chains.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Numbers:
    • 51343: Noble Bronze

    • 51344: Fresh White
  • Fan Weight: 22.5 lbs (10.2 kg) ±2 lbs.
  • Mounting Requirements: The fan must be mounted directly from the building structure and/or an outlet box marked acceptable for fan support of 70 lbs (31.8 kg).
  • Electrical Requirements: All wiring must comply with national and local electrical codes ANSI/NFPA 70. The fan requires an isolating wall control/switch.
  • Clearance Requirements:
    • Minimum 30 inches (76.2 cm) from blade tip to the nearest wall or obstruction.
    • Minimum 7 feet (2.13 meters) from the bottom edge of the blade to the floor.

  • Compliance: The product conforms to UL Standard 507 and complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules for Class B digital devices.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Options: Two primary methods for installing the ceiling bracket:
    • Option 1 (Machine Screws): For existing ceiling fan-rated outlet boxes, using machine screws provided with the outlet box.
    • Option 2 (Wood Screws): For securing to a support structure with an approved electrical outlet box, requiring 9/64" pilot holes and wood screws (included).
  • Wiring: Detailed instructions are provided for wiring with or without a single switch, including diagrams for grounded, white (grounded), ungrounded (light), and black (ungrounded) wires. Color-coded markings on connectors ensure correct connections.
  • Blade Assembly: The fan features five blades, each secured to a blade arm with grommets and blade screws. The blade arms are then attached to the motor with blade arm screws.
  • Light Kit Assembly: The light kit involves assembling an upper and lower switch housing, connecting wire plugs, and securing glass shades with thumb screws.
  • Pull Chain Control:
    • One pull chain controls the fan speed (from high to off).
    • Another pull chain controls the light fixture (on and off).
  • Reversible Airflow: A reversing switch on the side of the fan allows users to change the direction of blade rotation.
    • Downdraft (Counterclockwise Rotation): Creates a direct breeze for maximum cooling effect.
    • Updraft (Clockwise Rotation): Creates a more indirect airflow, moving warm air downward, suitable for warmer air circulation.
  • Optional Light Kit Removal: Instructions are available on the Hunter Fan website for installing the fan without a light kit.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The manual recommends using soft brushes or cloths for cleaning to prevent scratching and advises against using cleaning products that may damage the finishes.
