Overview

This document is a Use and Care Guide for a Husky 4 Gallon Portable Poly Wet/Dry Vacuum, Model #8200445.

Function Description:

The Husky 4 Gallon Portable Poly Wet/Dry Vacuum is designed for household use, capable of both wet and dry pick-up, as well as a blowing function. It is a versatile cleaning appliance that can handle various types of debris and liquids. The vacuum is equipped with a motor that generates suction for cleaning and can also be configured to blow air for clearing areas.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 4 Gallons (15.1 Liters)
  • Type: Portable Poly Wet/Dry Vacuum
  • Insulation: Double-insulated, meaning it has two systems of insulation instead of grounding. Servicing requires specialized knowledge and identical replacement parts.
  • Power: Operates on mains voltage, with frequency and voltage shown on the rating plate.
  • Filter System: Uses a cartridge filter for both wet and dry pick-up, and a foam filter specifically for wet pick-up. A filter retainer is used to secure the cartridge filter.
  • Safety Features:
    • Float mechanism for wet pick-up: automatically cuts off airflow when the liquid in the tank reaches a predetermined level to prevent motor damage.
    • Polarized plug: one blade is wider than the other, designed to fit in a polarized outlet only one way to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
    • Safety warnings regarding flammable materials, explosive dusts, toxic materials, and eye protection (safety goggles recommended).
    • Caution regarding hearing damage (ear protectors recommended for extended use or noisy areas).
  • Included Components: Handle, On/Off switch, Latches (2), Vacuum port inlet, Dust tank, Blowing port, Power cord hook, Accessory holders (4), Casters (4), Hose, Floor nozzle, Extension wands (3), Cartridge filter (multi-fit replacement), Foam filter.
  • Hardware Included: Screw ST 3.9X16F (4).
  • Tools Required for Assembly: Phillips Screw Driver.

Usage Features:

  • Dry Pick-up:
    • Requires the cartridge filter (M) to be installed.
    • Installation involves sliding the cartridge filter over the lid cage and pushing seals against the power head, then securing with the filter retainer by turning clockwise.
    • To remove for cleaning, turn the filter retainer counter-clockwise.
    • The cartridge filter can be cleaned by shaking, brushing, or rinsing with water (from the inside) and must be completely dried (approx. 24 hours) before re-installation.
    • It is crucial not to pick up soot, cement, plaster, or drywall dust without a filter and dust bag in place, as these fine particles can affect motor performance or be exhausted back into the air.
    • Do not use without a dust bag and/or filters in place.
  • Wet Pick-up:
    • Requires the cartridge filter (M) to be removed and replaced with the foam filter (N).
    • The integrated float mechanism will stop suction when the tank is full. When this occurs, the vacuum should be turned off, unplugged, and the tank emptied.
    • Wet pick-up accessories should be washed periodically.
    • Do not run the motor with the float in a raised position to prevent damage.
  • Blowing Function:
    • To use, insert one end of the hose (J) into the blower port (F) on the vacuum.
    • Turn the vacuum "ON" (position "I").
  • General Operation:
    • The On/Off switch has "0" for OFF and "I" for ON.
    • Always unplug the appliance when not in use, before servicing, or before removing the tank cover.
    • Do not leave the appliance plugged in or operating unattended.
    • Avoid using the vacuum as a toy, especially near children.
    • Do not use with a damaged cord or plug.
    • Do not pull or carry by the cord, or run the appliance over the cord.
    • Always grasp the plug, not the cord, to unplug.
    • Do not handle the plug or appliance with wet hands.
    • Keep openings free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
    • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all body parts away from openings and moving parts.
    • Do not pick up burning or smoking materials.
    • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
    • Do not pick up flammable or combustible liquids or use in areas where they may be present.
    • Do not use as a sprayer for flammable liquids.
    • Do not vacuum toxic, carcinogenic, combustible, or other hazardous materials such as asbestos, arsenic, barium, beryllium, lead, pesticides, or other health-endangering materials.
    • Empty heavily loaded tanks with special care and empty the tank after each use to avoid spontaneous combustion.
    • Wear safety goggles when operating the vacuum to prevent eye damage from foreign objects.
    • Stay alert and use common sense; do not operate when tired, distracted, or under the influence of substances.
    • Unplug before connecting hose, nozzles, filters, or other accessories.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cleaning/Replacement:
    • The cartridge filter should be cleaned often to maintain peak vacuum performance.
    • After cleaning, inspect the filter for tears or small holes; replace immediately if damaged, as even a small hole can allow dust to escape.
    • Before installing a filter, clean the lid area to ensure the clamp ring seals the bag and prevents small particles from bypassing the filter.
    • The cartridge filter (M) can be rinsed with water (from the inside) and must be completely dried (approx. 24 hours) before re-installation.
    • If the filter has been used for wet pick-up, it must be cleaned and dried before using for dry pick-up.
    • Replacement cartridge filter SKU#332340 is recommended.
    • Always reinstall the reusable dry filter for dry pickups and the foam filter for wet pickups to avoid damage to the blower wheel and motor.
    • Clean the filter in an open area.
  • General Cleaning:
    • Clean the outside of the vacuum with a cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap.
    • To clean the tank: dump debris, wash thoroughly with warm water and mild soap, and wipe dry.
  • Storage:
    • Before storing, the dust tank should be emptied and cleaned.
    • The power cord should be wrapped and hung on the unit.
    • Accessories should be kept in the accessory holder for easy access.
    • Store the vacuum indoors.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • A troubleshooting section is provided for common issues like the vacuum not running or loss of suction, with possible causes and corrective actions.
    • Always turn the power switch off and disconnect the power plug before performing troubleshooting checks.
  • Servicing:
    • For double-insulated wet/dry vacuums, servicing should only be done by qualified service personnel using identical replacement parts.
    • Unplug the power cord before servicing electrical parts.
  • Warranty:
    • Husky 2 Year Limited Warranty: Covers defects in materials or workmanship. Return to The Home Depot with a receipt for replacement. Excludes incidental/inconsequential damages, misuse, abuse, or normal wear and tear.
