This document is a Use and Care Guide for the Husky 2 Ton Trolley Jack, Item 296020, Model # HPL4136-VT. It provides instructions for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, along with safety information and product specifications.
Function Description
The Husky 2 Ton Trolley Jack is a lifting device designed for raising vehicles. It operates using a hydraulic system consisting of a plunger, plunger cavity, hydraulic oil reservoir, cylinder, and ram. An upward stroke of the jack handle draws oil into the plunger cavity, and a downward stroke forces oil into the cylinder, pushing out the ram and raising the saddle. A protective feature prevents overextension of the ram by allowing excess oil to pass back into the reservoir. When the release valve is opened, oil flows back into the reservoir, causing the ram to retract and lower the saddle. It is crucial to note that this jack is a lifting device only and not a support device; once a vehicle is lifted, it must immediately be supported by jack stands or other appropriate means. The jack is intended for use on hard, level surfaces capable of sustaining the load.

Usage Features
The manual outlines a clear process for using the trolley jack:
- Attaching the Handle: The lower handle is inserted into the handle socket, and a pin on the lower end of the handle fits into the handle socket slot.
- Placing the Vehicle in Park: Before lifting, the vehicle must be placed in PARK (or in gear for standard transmissions) with the emergency brake applied.
- Blocking the Wheels: Wheels not being raised should be blocked to prevent movement.
- Closing the Jack: The jack release valve is closed by turning the handle clockwise.
- Centering the Jack: The jack should be centered under the load, ensuring the saddle firmly contacts the lifting point without slipping. Users are advised to consult their vehicle manufacturer's owner's manual for approved lifting points.
- Pumping the Jack Handle: The handle is pumped until the saddle nears contact with the vehicle, then checked for proper centering and firm contact with the lifting point.
- Lifting the Vehicle: Pumping continues until the vehicle reaches a height slightly above the jack stands or other supports. The handle is then turned very slowly counterclockwise to open the release valve and lower the vehicle onto the supports.
Safety Precautions:
- Always study, understand, and follow all instructions before operation.
- Do not overload the jack beyond its rated capacity.
- Use only on hard, level surfaces.
- Never place yourself under or near a raised vehicle supported only by the jack.
- Immediately support the vehicle with jack stands after lifting.
- Do not move or dolly the vehicle while it is on the jack.
- Remove any damaged jack from service immediately.
- Lift only on areas specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Do not use a bottle jack in direct contact with food or food ingredients.
- Center the load on the saddle prior to lifting.
- Use of a bottle jack on sea vessels is prohibited.
- Failure to heed warnings may result in personal injury and/or property damage.
- Some vehicles may require an adapter for proper frame engagement.
- No alterations should be made to the product without written authorization from the manufacturer.
- Always keep hands and feet clear of the jack hinge and ground contact area when lowering the vehicle to avoid pinching or crushing.
Maintenance Features
The manual details procedures for inspection, adding hydraulic oil, replacing hydraulic oil, lubrication, and storage.
- Inspection: A thorough inspection should be performed before each use, checking for cracks in welds, bent, damaged, loose, worn, or missing parts. Any unit subjected to abnormal load or shock should be immediately inspected by a local customer service representative.
- Adding Hydraulic Jack Oil:
- Position the jack on level ground with the saddle fully lowered.
- Unscrew and remove the oil fill plug.
- Fill the reservoir with a good grade of SAE 5W hydraulic jack oil to the bottom of the threads in the oil filler hole.
- Replace and tighten the oil fill plug, ensuring no dirt or debris enters the system.
- Replacing Hydraulic Jack Oil:
- Open the release valve by turning the handle counterclockwise.
- Remove the oil fill plug.
- Turn the entire jack over to drain all old oil into a proper container, following local and state waste disposal guidelines.
- Turn the jack back over to a level position.
- Rapidly pump the jack handle 6 to 8 strokes to release any pressurized air.
- Fill the reservoir with a good grade of SAE 5W hydraulic jack oil to the bottom of the threads in the oil fill hole. Replace and tighten the oil fill plug, preventing dirt or debris from entering.
- Important Note: ALWAYS use SAE 5W hydraulic jack oil. NEVER use brake fluid, alcohol, glycerin, detergent motor oil, or dirty oil, as improper oil usage will cause serious internal damage.
- Lubrication: Apply a good grade of lubricating oil to all moving parts (arm linkages, front wheels, and rear casters) as needed.
- Rust Prevention: Check the ram and pump piston every two months (or sooner, depending on usage) for signs of rust or corrosion. Clean as needed and wipe down with an oil cloth.
- Storing: When not in use, the jack should always be stored with the saddle in its lowest (down) position. It is recommended to store the jack in a dry location with all wheels touching the ground on a relatively level position.
Troubleshooting
The manual provides a basic troubleshooting guide for common issues:
- Jack will not lift to full height: Solution is to ensure nothing is obstructing the stem or clear out debris.
- Jack will not hold load: Solution is to call customer service.
- Lift arm will not lower: Solution is to check the locking pin and release handle for proper functioning or call customer service.
