MAINTENANCE
See “BATTERY" in the Maintenance section of this manual.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: Positive terminal (+) must
be con nect ed FIRST to prevent sparks
from accidental ground ing.
• Connect the RED battery cable to (+) and then the
BLACK cable to (-) using square nuts and bolts previ-
ously removed. Tighten securely.
NOTE: BLACK cable should have protective sleeve by the
terminal end connected to tractor frame.
• Grease battery terminals to prevent cor ro sion.
• Installation is reverse of removal.
REPLACING BATTERY (See Fig. 46-48)
WARNING: Not following instructions
can result in sparks, arcing or open
flames which could lead to serious
personal injury or property damage.
Before handling battery, re move metal
brace lets, wrist watch bands, rings,
etc. from your person. Touch ing these
items to battery could result in burns.
WARNING: Ensure tractor ignition
switch is in the OFF position and igni-
tion key is REMOVED.
REMOVAL
• Locate silver ground screw on right side plate or tractor,
above right rear tire.
• Using a ½ inch (13mm) wrench or socket, completely
remove the silver ground screw and set aside.
• Pull protective sleeve over exposed terminal end
COMPLETELY covering terminal end.
• Using a 7/16 inch (11mm) wrench or socket, remove
larger RED (+) battery cable from solenoid stud.
DO NOT REMOVE smaller red wire from wiring har-
ness on solenoid stud.

CAUTION: Battery door stand must be secured in slot
below battery door when in the open position and secured
in battery door holders above battery door when in the
closed position.
• From the rear of the tractor, open battery door and
secure in slot.
• Pull battery with both cables attached out of battery
compartment and rest on battery door.
